I recently visited the Peak District Lead Mining Museum with 20 other members of the Sheffield U3A Geology Group, on a Wednesday in the middle of November – for a specially arranged tour of the museum and Temple Mine. Once everyone had found a long term car parking space – which it seems is not very easy in Matlock Bath... More

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the guided tour and will pass your comments onto the guide. We are very proud of the mineral collection and are planning to display more from the collection in 2017 as well as setting up introduction to geology aimed at children. I hope... More

Enchanting and thoroughly engaging museum filled with information on the lead mining industry in the area. Full of interactive exhibits, including a mocked up mine shaft those of us not too big can climb through. Our teens loved it, as did we adults. I'm sure littler ones would be equally entertained.

The museum itself is interesting, with well presented exhibits, but parking is a serious problem, and in that they only have a short stay car park, and the tours of the mine are spaced out.

There is a long stay car park on Temple Road and at the station in Matlock Bath but we share your frustration with the short stay only next to us and have spoken to the council on many occasions! Due to staffing limitations we can only have two mine tours a day - at 12 & 2. Otherwise we would... More

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and were very lucky to get on the mine tour. This was extremely interesting and we really enjoyed it. Thank you to the knowledgeable young man who led the tour. The displays about mining were very informative and detailed with much to learn. I really liked the new displays upstairs which concentrated more on... More

My wife and I really enjoyed a visit to The Peak District Lead Mining Museum. It sounds rather a limited subject but we found the museum most interesting and educational. There were plenty of exhibits and lots of information on two floors, it was all nicely laid out and displayed and very informative with very well written information boards, which... More

Thank you for this review, we are looking forward to having the new exhibition on the history of Matlock Bath fully open by the end of November. I am glad you felt the shop had a good range of affordable gifts we try very hard to keep them at pocket-money prices. More

During our walks in the Peak District we have seen evidence of the Lead Mining industry that dominated the area because of the many abandoned mine shafts. This museum sets out very well the history and also the perils of an industry that was started in Roman times. It is made interesting for children with lots of activities. We managed... More

I hope you will now be able to make more sense of some of the remains of the lead industry when out walking - have you been to Magpie Mine near Sheldon? It is run by our charity and is a fascinating site to walk around. I am glad you were able to go in the mine, the hill up... More

The museum did not have the Mine tour available when we visited but had plenty to see in the Museum itself over 2 floors. Very realistic displays on the Mining with many short videos around the Museum. If you enjoy visiting Industrial heritage then this is very worthwhile. They are still adding to the first floor display and when complete... More

I am glad you enjoyed the museum. I hope you will be able to visit again and go on the mine tour. Thank you for leaving a... More

Having worked in the mining industry for 37 years,I couldn't not visit this place, the Mrs was up for it too.As well as the museum, there are guided tours of the old mine workings on offer too.Unfortunately on the day of our visit, the mine tour was closed due to an electrical problem.Ironic when I was employed as an electrician in the pits!Still,it... Museum was a lot better than expected! Worth a look especially on a rainy day in Matlock Bath. Surprisingly our kids were well entertained by the museum which even has tunnels that you can actually crawl through sound effects and everything! Mine tour was brilliant, well worth the money. The female guide that took us around the mine was great... More

It is lovely to hear that you all enjoyed the museum and mine tour. The mine is a bit more of a challenge with the lower roof in places and the gold panning is always popular. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. More

This museum was recommended to us by friends. It is a remarkable collection of items relating to Lead Mining in Derbyshire and covers much, much more. There is a mock mine for children to climb around in - don't be surprised if a head pops out of the wall when you are looking at a display in the museum. We... More
