- Compass7962381 contributionFamily day outWent with our 5 and 6 year old, way exceeded our expectations! Arrived at 10 for opening and was done by 13.30, probably could have spent longer but we managed to do everything while quiet. Initially felt quite expensive but seeing how well grounds, playgrounds etc were maintained it made every penny worth it. Genuinely LOVED IT!Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit, and to get even better value, you can use your 12 month free return tickets to visit as often as you wish during the 12 months since purchasing the ticket.Written 13 April 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2023Written 2 April 2023
- John O'NionsChesterfield, United Kingdom6 contributionsOne of the best attractions around for familiesWe enjoyed another lovely family day out at Crich with our 4 and 10 year olds. The tram rides are always the highlight, and we love seeing the wide range of well-kept exhibitions. It’s fascinating to learn the history of the various lines that were once dotted around the country. The staff and volunteers are as friendly as ever, and only too happy to share their knowledge and passion with visitors. They really are a credit. As well as all that, the woodland walk, playground and picnic areas are perfect for families, and the pub is a welcome treat for the adults! Spotless facilities, loads of events and free return entry for 12 months. A great value day out and one of the best attractions around - we look forward to visiting again soon!Thank you for your review. We are delighted that the whole family enjoyed it and we look forward to welcoming you back. There are some great family events planned for this season. It was great fun riding the trams, a nice pit stop in the om, and not too taxing for us old timers. The staff were all very friendly and helpful too.Thank you for your review. - Elisabeth HRedditch, United Kingdom57 contributionsA very pleasant surpriseWe visited not knowing exactly what you expect. We knew about the unlimited tram rides (unfortunately my two year old was not a fan), but we didn't know what else to expect. We ended up spending twice as long there as we expected. We took the tram up to the top of the hill and did the woodland walk back. The sculptures were brilliant and kept the children going all the way back down. They then discovered the play park. We hadn't been expecting to be staying until lunch time (silly us) so we didn't bring a picnic. I would definitely recommend bringing a picnic to take advantage of the many lovely picnic spots. Otherwise you'll end up in the tea room, which is a very accurate hommage to the railway station café - the food is adequate but not amazing.... There are many many trams to see and we didn't even make it into the indoor play area. Definitely worth a visit, especially if the weather is good.Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit and we look forward to welcoming you back. We have lots of family friendly events on this season, for which you can use your 12 month free return ticket.Written 13 April 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 April 2023
- Alison HNottingham, United Kingdom138 contributionsBrilliant 1940s dayAmazing day out , I have visited Crich Tramway museum many times before but not the 1940s day , it was brilliant , so much to see and do , alot of people dressed up in Military or civilian costume of the time who had made a great effort inc children .Lots of trams were on so we easily get to ride them without waiting long .There was a good queuing system for the trams. Great singing at the bandstand of lots of 1940s songs , plus dancing. Lots of vehicles of the time , and displays of equipment and stalls .It was fun for all the family, There is a great adventure playground for younger ones which I know children love as I have taken classes of Primary age children there Lovely views of the Derbyshire countryside as its in a beautiful setting . Perhaps as it was a busy day some more catering equipment was needed but we had taken a picnic .Staff were all friendly and helpful .we had an excellent day, Crich Tramway museum is a delight to visit we will be back again soon .Thank you for your review. - Andrea SRedditch, United Kingdom58 contributionsGreat day out despite the weather !Visited Critch while on holiday with daughter and her toddler and baby. It was the only wet day of our break, we enjoyed time in the tram sheds, and the opportunity to get on a tram in there. The children were too young to enjoy the interactive boards in the tram shed, but these looked great for older children. The dressing up area was an unexpected bonus photo opportunity. It was lovely to have a tram ride, I think we all learned something . If the weather had been better we would have been able to make use of the highlights along the route. We felt it was value for money as the tickets are reusable within the 12mth period.Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you all enjoyed your visit and hope you will return again this season using your 12 month free return ticket. - AlexSheffield, United Kingdom1 contributionLove that it is a working musuem and can ride different tramsFantastic place, my 5 year old autistic son absolutely loved the old double decker trams and he was excited to visit and can't stop talking about Crich Tramway Museuem after coming home and he can't wait to go again! What is so fanatastic about this place is the ability to ride the trams rather than just look at them like you would in some other museuems. And they change the trams daily as to what you can ride on so there is some variety. Only downside is it was a cold April day and the exhibition hall and other buildings weren't heated, I can only think this is down to the running costs and current gas prices to heat such a place. I understand that this place doesnt recieve government funding which is criminal really, as this is a part of British heritage and history. If my five year old loved it and can't wait to go back, I think this is a very good endorsement. He prefers the old trams here to the Sheffield Supertram now and so do I actually, even if they are slower and don't have heating.Thank you for your review. We are delighted that both you and your son enjoyed your visits and look forward to welcoming you back.Written 13 April 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2023Written 12 April 2023
- Jez TCambridge, United Kingdom45 contributionsA full, fun day.Really impressed with this. We had a full day, riding on two different trams, doing the woodland walk, playground and exploring the workshops. The village gives a proper 'time machine' feel as you walk down towards it, which I loved. I was also impressed with the vast number of trams they had in then workshops. I enjoyed looking around and could have spent longer in there, but as you could only go on one of them my four-year-old couldn't stay interested. I'm glad we took a packed lunch, as the tea room wasn't quite as quaint as we'd envisaged and was very busy. A shame there was nowhere open to get a takeaway coffee, without joining the main food queue. Overall, we spent a good few hours there and had a fun day. A really unique attraction doing a great job of preserving some very special vehicles.Thank you for your review. - HBBlueAberdeen, United Kingdom86 contributionsWell worth a visitI wasn't expecting a lot from this experience but was pleasantly surprised. We visited on a rather wet March day so we did not utilise all of the features or walks available. The Tram rides are really good, and we recommend riding on as many as are running each day as they all have their own unique features. The Museum and sheds were very enjoyable, and we didn't realise how long we had spent watching the maintenance crews from the balcony above. We enjoyed walking round the old Trams and reading about their use and history. We stopped for a quick coffee at Ritas cafe, Theres plenty of options for everyone, but it did have one of my bug bears in so much as I hate anywhere that smells of a deep fat fryer. We encountered one member of staff who wasn't particularly helpful and bordered on the sarcastic but everyone else was really nice and couldn't be more helpful when we asked questions. The really brilliant part about the Tramway Village is that it is all disabled accessible - even the Trams! They have trams that can accommodate wheelchairs and the staff will aim to assist when you need. Diversity is key here for staff and visitors and no one is left behind.Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit and look forward to welcoming you back. We do ask visitors to book our Access Tram one week ahead of their visit so that we can secure the appropriate tram crew.Written 6 July 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 April 2023

This is a large site dedicated to when there were tramways in many towns and cities across the country. There are many buildings including a large collection of old trams and museums with memorabilia and information about the history of tramways. You can go on a tram ride up and down the site. There are also walks, views and a good quality cafe.

This place has gone downhill fast. They are about to demolish their period tea rooms and build in its place what looks like a McDonald's Drive Through. The plans are absolutely abysmal and totally contradict the whole purpose of the place. When I and others criticised this decision on their Facebook page and asked them to think again we were blocked. Totally blocked from their social media. Appalling behaviour. Censoring the very people who they rely on to stay open. I will NEVER visit this place again. It's obviously in the worst hands its been in in its long history. God knows what's coming next.

A pretty murky day but we promised our grandson so spent a couple of hours on the M1 in pouring rain to get there!
Arrived and the rain stopped so we had a couple of rides on the trams that were running and enjoyed the tramshed and exhibition areas. We need to return to do the bits that were too wet to do! Enjoyed lunch in the cafe and came home after about three hours. About right for a 4 year old who enjoyed the tram rides and the indoor play area!
Staff friendly and helpful and the whole experience is well worthwhile.
Impressive set up!

Went here back in the 1980's and only returned today! Fascinating place that only let's you have lots of tram rides but is informative regarding as to the background regarding their emergence.
Much to see and learn about trams past, present and future.
Plenty of well presented information on the social background to the early years of trams, their "hey day", decline and growing resurgence.
Good facilities for eating and drinking and buildings rescued from elsewhere add to the ambience of the site

We had a really enjoyable visit, the exhibitions were great and the volunteers really knowledgeable. Helped that our teenagers enjoyed it one being into engineering design enjoyed seeing how the trams evolved. Also dog friendly which was great for our labrador especially the woodland walk. Cafe / pub food ok but a little old fashioned re options but again friendly staff.

Great place to visit. Historic trams to view and ride on. Lots of tram related memorabilia. Cafe is basic but okay. Pub is Victorian on the outside and surprisingly 1980’s decor on the inside. Good gift shop.

Unfortunately, although the tickets are good value being good for a year, with added discounts, Crich TM could use a little wheelchair/mobility scooter advice.
Lots to see and do, with a rather challenging ‘hike’ up to the pretty basic cafe.
If a flat paved path - or tarmac - could be laid, either would facilitate wheelchair/scooter users a much improved experience.
Amazing experience for nostalgia and for younger people.

Thank you for your review. Whilst we did provide a ramp to the cafe, we appreciate it is steep. We are installing a new cafe with lift, which should be complete by the middle of 2024, so we hope you will return.

A very interesting village, especially if you are interested in old trams. It is set in a stunning location and when you ride the different trams, there are stop-off points of interest where you can leave the tram to explore the different areas. There is a period village with a pub, cafe, sweet shop and Derby Assembly Rooms which have been rescued from around the UK and rebuilt in the village. There are inside and outside play areas for the children and an exhibition hall. A great place for a day out.

Visited here for the day on a sunny Sunday in October for the second time (although I don’t remember the 1st as I was about 6!)
There is a huge collection of trams here which have been restored and cared for and 3 are usually in service each day for people to travel on up and down the tracks all day. The entry fee seems a little steep at £22 per person but when you consider this allows you repeat access for 12 months then it’s great value! The staff throughout the day were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable especially those on the trams.
There were several museum style areas with a lot of historical information, photos etc. and old style pub, cafe, sweet shop and ice cream stalls. There is a woodland walk with stunning views and play areas for children but of course, the stars of the show are the trams!

It is. There is a 'smoothway' from Admissions to the main Village area, but being an historic site, there are some areas which are difficult to make smooth. There is a slope from Admissions to the main street. You can see our Accessibility Statement on our website.

Yes, dogs on a lead are welcome everywhere except Rita's Tearooms and the indoor children's play area.
Is it pushchair accessible? Are pushchairs allowed on the trams?
CrichTramway
Matlock, UK1 contribution
Yes you can use pushchairs around the site. They cannot be taken on the trams, but there is a buggy park near to the tram stop to leave them.
How far is it to walk if we caught the a accessible tram at 11.30 and walked back with the wheelchair?
Also, is there a place to leave a motorized scooter, and can one be used to travel round the park?
Thank you
