I played a round at Ripon. The start being a very short par three, followed by a 200 yard walk across a road and down a lane to find the second tee makes a strange start. However, the next 9 holes are well manicured and beautifully designed, making both an interesting use of the topography and thus some testing shots off both tee and approaches to the greens. The last 8 holes are verymuch up and down and a little more monotonous. However, they are still very pleasant to play. The only negative was the ladies two Ball that jumped in on the14th tee as I was walking off the 13th green. Despite seeing me as the were on the par 3 green of the 14th, proceeded to hold me up on every shot until theaplroach to the 18th, when they attempted to call me through. I went here for a meal as part of a group of 30 diners. A really good value meal, pleasantly served. The only complaint was that the place was really chilly.

Went here with a visiting group during the week. We were a little earlier than our friends so went into the bar area which has a good view over a few holes. Although we weren’t drinking at the time we received a warm welcome from bar staff and members in equal measure. We thoroughly enjoyed our round and thought that the whole course was in very good condition, except for the first which is currently being re-turfed so winter green was in play there. Our group started the day with coffee and bacon sandwich and ended it with a roast meal and apple pudding which warmed us on a cold end to the day. Again the staff attending to us were excellent. Well done…

This course, apparently with a new head greenskeeper this year, has improved unbelievably. The greens were the best, smoothest, slick surfaces I have played on this year, and I would rate them better than any I have played in 2018, and that includes Moortown, Pannal, Ilkley and Ganton. A good test of golf - underestimate it at your peril - and beautifully presented, with a new balcony offering fabulous views of the course…
