The train rumbles along through the countryside, it's on a route that many of the villagers use to get to the nearby towns. There's no refreshment facilities (take your own) and no a/c in summer or heating in the winter. One great thing is the...More

Although cheap the journey was a bit disappointing. It takes approximately five hours to do the complete route. Most of the stops are at run down places with few amenities. Although the scenery is nice in places for most of the journey you travel through...More

It was such an awesome experience. When we boarded in Septemvri I was bit disappointed cause I was wishing to see some local people, instead there was a full train of people going to SPA in Velingrad. Thankfully they all left in their destination and...More

I'm certainly not a railway fanatic but this train trip was a real highlight of my brief visit to Bulgaria. It has great history (masses of information on-line, including videos and timetables) and serves the local community as opposed to being 'tourist attraction'. I took...More

Having completed our stay in Bansko, and as part of our journey to Starosel, we spent 3 hours to cover 44km as the crow flies. The train line wends its way up mountains and through tunnels, at a snails pace. Comfortable and cheap with great...More

The trip is a breathtaking dip into the mountains, taking you away from everyday life and bringing you back in history with the charming old little trains and the simple and pure lifestyle of the locals. You can meet interesting people, hear their stories, even...More

Good break from skiing. We took our lunch and travelled from Bansko to septemvri and back. It was very quaint. A good way to see the Bulgarian landscape, with picturesque forest last and frozen waterfalls. Not luxury but good for people watching and comfortable We...More

Train enthusiasts - this one's for you. Narrow gauge railway between Septemvri and Dobrinishte. Takes a long time with stops in two stations where you wait to pass the trains coming the other way. Quaint old fashioned carriages. Whole journey takes about 5 hours but...More
