Mrs Finnegan is accomplishing an excellent job in keeping this traditional craft alive in the county of Kerry. My husband and I visited in August from Milan. I enjoyed her explanations about the different types of existing lace and the differences with Kenmare lace. I vote for her to administrate a larger museum space where she could show the beautiful... It's a climb up steep stairs but once at the top you will find some of the most exquisite lace on exhibit. A very knowledgable lady behind the counter was explaining about the technique and history. Some lace for sale too. Be careful going back down the stairs!

Thank you for your complimentary review. We do our best to pass on what we have learned. Unfortunately we cannot do anything about the stairs. However, there is a good sturdy hand rail, if, as you suggest you take care and take your time you should be ok! Thank you for the warning! More

Kenmare Lace is located above the Visitor's Center. The practice of making lace requires patience and great care. Nora Finnegan has passed this art down to her daughters, and they are skilled, informative and delightful. You can watch them work on demonstration pieces of lace.

Great to hear about a craft that was such an integral part of this charming city's history. The woman who runs it is very knowledgable of the craft itself and it's history. It is a very small place and just takes maybe a half and hour at most to visit. They also offer workshops at certain times throughout the year.... More

Everything you wanted to know about lace -- the history, the process, the products. Kenmare is the place to go for quality and beautiful lace! There are some products and souvenirs for sale too. This centre is located right beside the Tourist Info Office, so we only stumbled upon the lace centre by luck. Maybe they should put up more... More

Thank you so much for your review. The amount of signs we are allowed to put up is limited. We do our best. Great reviews like yours are the best way of letting people know about us and what we do. Thanks again, More

A very interesting visit to understand how the lace tradition and skills have survived. The various types of lace making were demonstrated on request. I was interested in the connection with Coggleshall in Essex. An interesting and worthwhile visit if you are at all interested in textils etc.

The friendly staff are eager to demonstrate traditional lace making and relate the history of Lace making in Kenmare. Post cards, bobbins & thread for DIY are available for purchase as well as completed Lace. They are conveniently located next to the Tourist office--don't miss it!

The lady who was behind the counter was very knowledgeable about lace but the shop was very dusty and disorganized. For those with mobility issues, the narrow, steep staircase would be a real obstacle.

So sorry your visit was not up to expectations. The reason for the dust and disorganisation was that the Centre was under refurbishment. Perhaps we should have waited to open for the season until the work was finished, but then you would not have seen any of our beautiful lace our shared in our knowlege. I hope you can return... You could linger all day looking at the intricate designs of the lace created by the ladies of Kenmare from long ago. The woman who works here and her daughter are helpful and kind.

We saw the signs for the Lace and Design Centre in the evening while seeing Kenmare. We made plans to come back in the morning to visit and are so glad we did! A beautiful display of many laces with ladies actually making lace as it has been done for hundreds of years! My only regret is not being able... More
