From what we've seen so far of the Ring of Kerry, I feel that the Ring of Beara is considerably more interesting. The towns are all quaint and colorful, there are views every which way you turn your head, whether on the coast or up...More
We chose to take a drive along the Beara peninsula because after reading a bunch of Ireland vacation books, it suggested that this was better...mainly because the ring of Kerry had a lot of tour buses. I'm so glad we did this because the drive...More
This is such a beautiful area. I would recommend a week stay here to do all that you want. Taking the cable car was a thrill and hiking the mountain on th island was a day's adventure!! We enjoyed the small towns, the stone circles,...More

Having been to both the Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Beara, I prefer the Ring of Beara. On a clear day there are some absolutely breathtaking views during the drive. The Garinish Island was a wonderful surprise. It's a beautiful small island accessible by ferry.
Although we did not hike I do see a number of biking/hiking trails on the Ring of Beara map I brought home.
We based in Killarney for several nights and roamed out in different directions each day. It's about a 40 minute drive from Killarney to Kenmare.
I agree with the suggestion above to go to Dingle Peninsula too.
