We hiked around the island as far as we could go. the trail is easily identified - but don't short change yourself for time - it takes much more than you anticipate. make sure you have good footwear, hiking poles are handy as some of the terrain is very steep, and pack yourself a snack and plenty of water. An island steeped in history and situated close to the mainland. Remains of housing clearly seen . This is an island worth visiting and I believe organised trips are available.

I was told that the people on Great Blasket Island did not suffer during the Great Famine. They fished and lived off of the sea and stayed alive. It does have a few houses but it is still rather remote.

This is an amazing location for photos and views. If you can land on the island, a nice hike around the old buildings. Make sure to visit the museum on the mainland.

We visited the Visitor Center of Blasket Islands. It was very well organized and easily accessible. There was a short video of the island and its inhabitants and how they lived before moving to the mainland.

I didn't actually go on the Island because the tours are limited, but the view of it is wonderful. It's an iconic sight from the Dingle Peninsula and is famous as the background view of the village schoolhouse in the film Ryan's Daughter.
