We visited the old lighthouse on a tour around the south of peninsula, WW2 buffs will enjoy seeing the D-day weather forecast memorial plaque. Don't miss the spiral stone sculpture at Falmore and the fantastic white sand beach at Glosh if you're in the area.

Steeped in history, this area is surprisingly linked to many historical events...but I'll let you figure them out yourself!! Lovely walks and quiet beaches... worth a visit!

My ancestors came from the area- very rugged and beautiful, but I can see why life as a subsistence farmer was so difficult here!

The whole area is really stunning views , well worth the drive! Most little roads loop back to the main road so one can't really get lost. Take a packed lunch as there are many places to stop and walk round.

Today's Tragedy at Blacksod brought memories flooding back of an experience I had involving a Helicopter at Blacksod in August 1977. While holidaying in Dugort ,Achill I joined Capt.Alan Mutton of Irish Helicopters on an early morning trip taking Lighthouse Keepers off Blackrock and Eagle Island lighthouses. When returning from Eagle Island the helicopter developed engine trouble and barely limped... More

C J Boland said in his poem about ' the two travelers' that anybody who hadn't seen Mullinahone, shouldn't say he travelled at all. The same could be said of Blacksod Bay. It is remote, rugged, historic & spectacular, sitting on the edge of the Atlantic & looking right across at the United States of America. It's historic in that... More

Came across this by accident and what a little gem, it was a cold but sunny November day and the colours of the boats really stood out.

We visited here in November 2016. There is not a lot to see here or in this part of Mayo. The landscape is rather bleak and monotonous and beaches are disappointing. The people are very friendly.

A must for WW11 history buffs, if this weather forecaster hadn't got it absolutely right we'd most likely all be speaking German. An absorbing must to Google this story, from the romance between the weather forecaster guy in this lighthouse & the local lady in the Post Office who took the calls from London where D-Day was being planned (they... We had a lot of fun travelling around the Belmullet area. We stopped at the Blacksod pier to watch the fishermen. A small lobster bought had just came in and we asked if we could buy some. We went back to our AIRBNB in Ballina and had ourselves the best lobster dinner ever!
