It was nice to see this unique ecosystem called a alluvial forrest. However, it was very sad to see the gross level of human impact caused by the impoundment of the River Lee and subsequent drowning of the Gearagh all in the name of progress.

If you are out and about visiting the Macroom area this is worth a visit. When waters were drained the remains of an ancient petrified forest were exposed. It is like a scene from an SF movie. I found it fascinating

I found this by accident. I am a photographer also, so I was in the area and wanted to shoot some shots. I googled and found this was near by. It is a submerged forest apparently, deliberately flooded for a hydroelectric plant. Long walks available...More

A fabulous scenic walk across a collection of water ! Little bridges add to the whole ordeal ! Great if you catch a dry day ! Plenty free parking

This is a magic place for a walk, sit-down, or picnic. Great for photography. Try landscape, seascape and macro here. Come in Summertime to experience the Butterfly Island at its best.
