Trip into history

My sister and I walked to the fort from Kinsale. It was definitely worth it. The old structures really ignite your imagination. Even watched the sail boats come in.

We were traveling in a group with two huge coaches. We stopped here having no knowledge of what this was. Once inside I was enthralled by the ruins of this fort. I took more pictures here than probably anywhere else on our trip. I had to race around as we only had a short time to spend here. There was... More

Walk along the coast road then the lower road through Scilly continuing along the path....level so far....before an uphill stretch to meet the road. Only to head all the way back down to sea level....and up again to Charles Fort. An extensive and evocative site with excellent photo opportunities, especially in low winter sunlight. Add the long views to Kinsale... More

My friends and I had a full day to spend in Kinsale before heading back to Cork city center, so after talking to a few locals, we realized we could actually pretty much see the whole town in a day, on foot. We were told to go check out Charles Fort and let me tell you - everything about the... More

Star shaped old fort building. How many of those do you get to see? The star shape was built with the intention of making it hard to bombard with canon. If you can view the fort from the sea you will see it as it was really supposed to be used for defense. So costly to build they ran out... More

We took a quick trip out there but didn't actually pay to go inside the fort. There was enough beauty for us to see on the outside including the fort, bay, and land arrangement. It is so scenic a wedding was doing photo shoots there. I imagine if you wanted to know more about the interesting history of the fort... More

Charles Forst is a must see for anyone visiting kinsale. It was a beautiful day when we visited. We really enjoyed hearing the history of the fort & the white lady. Nice little restaurant within the fort.

The Charles Fort is a must stop when visiting Kinsale. The fort is mostly intact so one gets a real sense of what life must have been like for those stationed there. The guides at the fort are very helpful with many stories about events and people. Ask about the White couple!!!!!

An excellent afternoon trip to see an old fort that was still in use during the World War. One building has more information on several people who served from the area.
