If you’ve ever wanted to go up a lighthouse then this is your opportunity to do so. See how the lighthouse man and his family used to live here in a really good interactive way. Everyone will enjoy this and there’s a cafe there too if you need refreshments and a loo stop.

I recently visited Valentia lighthouse with a friend. We had planned to visit here since last year and finally got the opportunity when work and weather allowed us. This very well maintained building is a must see, and very affordable to enter. There is a little shop opened during the summer months with a bench outside. I must compliment the very well kept bathroom facilities which exceeded expectations. There is a lot of printed information to enjoy throughout the building to allow visitors to appreciate what an important duty those that worked here had. Also how important this lighthouse was, and the crucial role it played for so many. Stepping into the living quarters was surreal, I could certainly imagine the many winter nights the inhabitants would have spent standing by the fire talking. It felt to me as if the family had just left the breakfast room for a few minutes and I wandered in for a glimpse. It was a little sad, but the experiences of those who lived there were happy ones I'm sure along with some challenges which you will learn about from the old recordings playing. Thank you for adding to our experience on Valentia island, I hope to return with my family.

Nice place. Stone from bronze age, fort from Cromwell era plus views, lots of info on how a lighthouse is operating and the lighthouse master's living quarters transformed into a small museum. There is also a nice little tea room. If you're there, also visit the Geokaun mountains and the Skellig Experience Centre and do the Bray Head drive - Valentia island has a lot to offer.

This stunning Lighthouse has been enhanced with the renovation and restoration of the light keeper's home, interactive displays, audio visual presentations about not just the Lighthouse and the keepers, but also the 17th century cromwelian fort it was built on, an original cannon, and more info on the surrounding area. There is even a standing stone from the Bronze era within its grounds! From the top of the lighthouse you can see the Valentia Slate Quarry, a beautiful high cross, Glanleam estate (which was the Knight of Kerry's home), the tower at the old protestant graveyard where he was burried, all of Valentia Harbour, Knightstown, Cahersiveen, Church Island, Begenish Island, the Dingle Penninsula, and the Blasket Islands! There is also a piece of the original transatlantic cable on display. To add to all that the kitchen of the old living quarters is now a tea room with outstanding coffee and delectable treats! The road isn't great but it's part of the adventure and apparel the County Council plans to restore it! We were lucky enough to see Basking sharks off the point! Not to be missed, a great attraction, well presented!
