- tony cEuless, Texas321 contributionsNice Visit to HowthGreat fishing village out side Dublin. Go to Connolly Station and get a ticket to platform 7. It is the last stop on the train ride so hard to screw up. So many small family restaurants and bars and they all looked great. We ate at the Abbey Tavern. It also has great views and long walking paths.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 May 2024
- partie-of-sevenRoselle, Illinois153 contributionsGo early in the day to beat the crowdsBeautiful walk with beautiful views. We took a cab out early in the morning to beat the crowds. The trails got more crowded as the day went on. Took the train/tram back into Dublin, it was standing room only all cars were packed full.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 June 2024
- Prague Filmsets27 contributionsHowth cliff walk experienceWe wanted to go on a nature trip from Dublin, so we chose a trip to the Howth Peninsula. The train journey from Dublin city centre to the terminus didn't take long, and then we took a scenic walk along the east side (Green route), where there were wonderful views of the sea. This walk took us all the way back to the village from which we took the train back to Dublin. We also took a ride on a double decker bus, which was a bonus.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 June 2024
- LilianhkToronto, Canada47 contributionsDublin Howth visitBeautiful cliff scenery near Dublin. If you are not planning to see Dingle, Kerry or the rest of Ireland and only visiting Dublin, then this is a great 1/2 visit. There are hiking routes based on your level of difficulty. Not spectacular views like the rest of Ireland but beautiful enoughVisited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 June 2024

My family and I enjoyed the walk and we were very relaxed afterwards. There is a great little market if you fancy coffee or food.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 September 2024

John is the best guide ever.
Walking with great fun people and learning about that part of the coast in a fun way. At tume we’d laugh and sometimes there were even tears with a poem he recited.
Absolutely fantastic

There is convenient public transport to get there. The tour lasts about an hour and incredibly beautiful views are revealed in front of you. I recommend that you start from the highest point, as this way you will descend and the walk will not tire you. Finally you will reach the harbor where I recommend you to eat fish & chips in one of the neat restaurants by the shore.

Completed the full (purple route) cliff walk on a beautiful sunny Saturday in August. We started at the Dart stadium and completed the the 12km loop in a clockwise direction.
There is a modest climb that takes you out of the village and onto the cliff paths. The initial 4km that takes you as far as Baily Lighthouse has the best cliff views and is therefore the most busiest part of the route.
The next 4km or is much quieter but has some great views too as you go around by Drumleck point and the Martello tower.
The last section takes you back inland across a golf course, a GAA ground and a house estate before that you back to the Dart station.
Overall, it’s a great walk but if you don’t fancy the full 12km loop , the out and back walk as far as the lighthouse would be a good alternative.

Something worth seeing at the end of today, even it it's a bit rainy. Careful though, it can be very slippery on the wet rocks and make sure your phones are well charged as you might be spending some time taking many photos. Also, it's very windy.

If you are visiting Dublin and you long for a fresh seabreeze, this is a great opportunity to do some hiking. The walks are well marked and currently being upgraded. We did the purple circuit (12-15km) which offers great views to all sides of the peninsula, but there are also shorter walks. Take good shoes with you.

We were visiting Dublin in March just as the corona virus was becoming a pandemic in the US so we had to change our flight to get back home quickly. Our last day in Dublin, we took the train to Howth to walk around. We found so many cool things to see and even though some places were already closed due to CV, we enjoyed a hike and watching cliff divers. We plan to return another time after things are back to “normal.”

If you're in Dublin for a few days you might consider visiting Howth and doing the cliff walks. I would not advising bringing kids or young children on this walk as there are no barriers between the walk and the cliff edge. There are 4 walks you can do, the shortest is 4or5km and will take up to 1hour 30mins. The longest route will take around 3to4hours. The views are amazing as you look out over Howth and Ireland's Eye Island. Bring good walk shoes or boots, water and a rain jacket just in case of the changeable Irish weather. After you finish treat yourself to a well deserved pint or beautiful seafood in one of the many great bars and restaurants in Howth.

We took the train from the city centre and that took us about 45 minutes. We had read the reviews and booked a restaurant before we left the city to make sure we got a good table.
We walked around for about 2 hours and it's just so lovely! Could not recommend it enough.
Bring a warm jacket as it can be pretty windy. However, it was all still with no wind when we were there and the sun set in the horizon. A magical day and evening.
Make sure to eat some of the newly fished seafood! Delish!

Howth Head is a lovely walk but do not spoil it by visiting the pulic toilets at the pier. I couldn't believe that such a facility exists in Ireland in 2023. Reminded me of the old days when all public toilets were like this.
None of the taps at the sinks were working so no hand washing available.
Smell was disgusting.
This was very early am so no excuse.
My wife used the Female side and they were the same.
Does anyone in authority read this?
Shameful.

Written 1 October 2019
Salve noi abbiamo fatto Howth in mezza giornata in auto senza vedere Malahide.

Hi I plan to visit in late October. Will it be raining and cold? Will anything be open to see? Thank you
Written 20 March 2019
it can be windy and rainy or you could be lucky and get a dry but cold day so go well wrapped up with layers and then you can adjust to the weather on the day. As to what's open, Howth is not just for the holidays so you will find all the bars and eateries open during the day as its an all year round place to visit. The boat trip from the harbour may not be running at that late stage but all else should be open .

Salve!

Is there a little beach here that I can take my children to or is it mainly costal walks? Thanks
Written 26 May 2018
Sorry for delay, and I guess it is late now. There are a couple of beaches in the walk. But going from Howth they might be a bit far for town
Written 11 June 2018
