It's easy to overlook the hidden beauty of the River Shannon and Lough Ree and there's no better way to see it than on board the Viking Boat in Athlone. Live commentary is very interesting and the scenery is beautiful whether it's sunny or wet. There's also a small bar on board with some nice beers available. Definitely recommended for... More

It was a rainy day but we still enjoyed to tour. It takes off behind Athlone Castle and if you visit castle they give you a discount for the Viking Tour. Athlone is all about the waterways so you have to do a tour. It was fun. There is tea/coffee etc on board and lots to see. You could get... More

We did this with our 2 young kids recently while visiting Athlone and it was great. Our 5.5 year old got to steer the boat which was the highlight of his day. Michael and George were very helpful.

if in ireland head to Athlone and take the viking boat to Monasterboice to view this ancient monument.Great value for money and if weather is inclement there is plenty of cover. The guide knows the river shannon backwards and tea and coffee is complementary.Boat leaves from centre of Athlone, and you can take a bus back to town after exploring the... More

Lovely trip on the boat. Staff were very friendly. Provided blankets for anyone sitting up on deck as it can get cold and also allowed any children on the boat who wanted to seer it the chance to do so. Tea, coffee chocolate etc. available in the small shop as well as some souvenirs. My only complaint was that it... More

Our business group took an outing on the boat from Hodson bay to Athlone town. The timings were spot on as per timetable, the staff were very friendly, Mike was informative about the surroundings on the Shannon, and the cosy blankets were a welcome feature. Great way to break the ice on business outings.
