Going through the tiny tourism office you enter the Heritage Centre which seems to consist of loads of display boards showing random photos of people with rather confusing headings and information about them. I couldn't quite work out how the different boards / photos linked together - maybe there were familial links but we didn't stay long enough to work... More

Visited Shelias Cafe at the Heritage Centre in Ardara twice this week, once for coffee and second time for lunch, on both visits experience ruined by abundance off flies swarming around the tables. Two families left swiftly from the table beside me and my elderly father. Would seriously question the hygiene risk. Made my complaint on paying for my meal... More

The Heritage Center consists of a room with old photos of local people enjoying themselves. As I have roots in the area, I enjoyed seeing the pictures and trying to find a family resemblance in the faces. If your ancestors are not from the area, this might have limited appeal for you. I didn't eat at the cafe but it... More

What can I say about Sheila's ? Only that it is an excellent place to eat with friendly helpful staff. Being local I have eaten here many times and must have had everything on the menu by now. Sheila's home made bread and desserts are to die for as is the coffee. Yesterday I went there for lunch with 5... More

The free Heritage center shares its space with the tourist office and a cafe...and doubles as the towns community center. If you can get a local to explain and expand on the home-made dioramas and posters, it is a sweet slice of north-Ireland from the first part of the twentieth century. I loved it and through it learned a lot... More

An interesting, but sparsely "furnished" centre. Consists mainly of old (enlarged, B&W) photographs of local weavers and their specialist skills; some depicting life in Ardara at the beginning of the 1900's. It also has an information centre with "tourist leaflets" and maps of Ardara, Donegal County and places of interest. The "receptionist" was very knowledgeable, personable and helpful. No entrance... Came here for lunch staff friendly and helpful. the food is fresh and we'll presented. This is a busy place but staff cope well with this. Food delivered in good time also make fresh traditional Irish bread and scones would definitely recommend to others.

The center seemed deserted and a bit tired, but I loved the treats at Sheila's which adjoins the center. It was a folksy kind of place....

Adjacent to the Diamond in the centre of this gem in the Donegal Highland, the Ardara Heritage Centre, although small, is full of information about the local area. There is also an excellent café serving hot food and snacks and free WiFi. Locals step in for a coffee. The Bon ami spirit makes you feel at one with this beautiful... More
