Great people, great music, great pints. Fantastic food and nice for watching sports too. Nice and cosy during the winter with open fires, and a little bit crazy during the summer out in the slick garden area, which is a hidden gem!

Lovely welcoming pub. Friendly staff. Beautiful open fire. Had a good few pints of Guinness with the family. Would definitely recommend this pub. We will visit again on our travels to Birr.

I stopped here while staying in Birr and found it to be one of the most beautiful pubs I've ever been in. It's a historic Victorian pub with chestnut wood walls and bar (thus the name 'Chestnut'), and it has gold chandeliers and lots of candlelight throughout as well as tasteful paintings and furniture. I went for a pint of... More

Ok, I'm biased! I live here in Birr, Co. Offaly Ireland, having moved here 15 years ago from my native America. One of the first places I visited was The Chestnut and met the owner, Clodagh Fay, who's pride in her establishment was immediately apparent, and for good reason! This pub has it all: located in a period structure in... More

We had a fun evening at the pub. Comfortable and friendly environment with live music playing in the background, however it was Friday so not sure that always happens. Great place to stop for a drink.

Two people suggested we go to the Chestnut Public House to watch the World Cup Rugby game. Although our team lost, we had a great time at the Chestnut. The owner brought around free sandwiches at half-time, and the patrons were all friendly. If you wanted a quieter setting, they had an upstairs. We loved the cozy atmosphere.
