We called in here on route to a mining exhibition a little further on also to look at a waterfall.
The waterfall was a waste of time with hardly any flow even after heavy rain also covered in foliage so you couldn't see it.
The park was lovely with a good car park and its terrapin's in the lake past the café that as tourists didn't know was there, suggest a café sign would be helpful on the entrance to the park to guide visitors in the right direction.

In recent weeks a group of us have been making the most of FREE day trips by taking the children to parks, beaches, lakes and mountains. It was one of the children's Birthdays and he wanted a Party in a park. Having first visited Barry Sidings 2 years ago, I suggested visiting here. We all met at Pontypridd Train Station loaded with suncream, hats, drinks, sausage rolls, sandwiches, cocktail sausages, crisps and of course a Birthday cake. We approached Barry Sidings from the Sardis Road entrance and walked along the path towards the playground and ponds. There were lots of people walking (with and without dogs) and cycling along the path, which was clean with minimal litter. The path was relatively smooth making it accessible to push chairs and wheelchairs The woodland scenery along the path was amazing and there were lots of wild flowers and squirrels.

When we reached the children's playground we decided to eat the picnic, because the children were hungry after their walk. We sat on the picnic benches, ate our lunch and sung happy birthday before cutting the cake. After eating, the children fed the ducks on the pond. The children spent about 2 hours in the well equipped playground before we visited the cafe.

At the cafe we ordered drinks, chips and ice creams. We sat inside, because it was a very hot day. The cafe was immaculate with palette wood furniture. We received a lovely welcome from the waitress who noticed that 'The Birthday Boy' was wearing a number 8 badge. She really took an interest in his Birthday presents and he told her all about his Party in the park. The food was lovely and very reasonably priced. From the cafe we walked over the old bridge to Hopkinstown Road and caught the bus back to Pontypridd. Next time we visit we will drive, because there is a free car park and the children can bring their bikes and scooters.

Have never come across such exception ally helpful staff. Seating inside cafe seating made up of pallets and other benches they kindly brought a chair for my mum(86). Instead of my having to go to counter to collect food ( I use a crutch) They kindly carried the food for us. Really good quality tasty beef burger and skin on fries. The prices are really good .

On 19th May 2024 we travelled for an hour to get to the the South Wales Classic Car Club Show hosted by Barry Sidings Cafe. We waited for another half hour to get to the front of the traffic queue to turn into the park during this time we were puzzled to see several nice old classic cars and others driving away from the park. The car park was full and clearly too small to accommodate all the visitors (although we were very lucky to find a space).

The traffic marshalling was unfriendly, unhelpful and chaotic. It attempted to allow visiting cars to turn across the opposing lane cars blocking the flow of traffic in both directions which must have caused a lot of annoyance to uninvolved local drivers.

At the entrance to the show the gate was closed to exhibitors and (probably not surprisingly) there was no sign of any of the organisers through the time we were there.

The show area was quite small, wet and muddy in places, with about 80 cars on display.

The cafe was clearly overwhelmed. There was a long queue in front of the entrance. I asked a couple about to reach the door how long they had been waiting and they said '50 minutes' and an angry lady who was leaving told us she had waited an hour and a quarter to get served and when she offered cash she was told that they only took card payments. She had no card so was leaving empty handed. She said she had seen no notices forewarning of the Card Only policy and neither could we. We gave the cafe and the queue a miss.

We left after an hour. There was no sign of any organiser/steward/marshal in the, still full, car park and we had a long wait in the queue to get out, with other cars who were entering and leaving again because there was nowhere to park and also would be exhibitors who couldn't get in to the 'show'.

When we got to the road there were still two long queues either side or the entrance waiting to get in.

Although there were some nice old cars to look at the the whole thing was a very frustrating utter shambles and a huge waste of time.

Barry Sidings Countryside Park was easy to find and we parked the car near to the entrance at Trehafod so we could walk the entire park. Along the path we passed lots of cyclists and runners whilst taking in the scenery and listening to the birds sing. The path was relatively smooth and was suitable for pushing a pram. Eventually we came across some ponds which were teaming with birds. There were lots of children feeding the birds and looking at the fish in the water. There is also a large playground area, a cafe and bike hire / repair shop. We briefly stopped at the cafe for a drink before continuing our journey to Pontypridd. The path led us to Sardis Road which is a short walk to the town centre, so we decided to browse the shops and find somewhere nice to eat. We intended to take the same route back, but we were laden with toys and other gifts for Christmas from B & M, Boots, Peacocks and Pep & Co. So instead of walking back we caught the bus to Trehafod to retrieve the car. We had a fantastic day and would definitely revisit Barry Sidings, because the walk was very pleasant and clean (no litter or dogs mess).

Decent size park and very popular.
Very large car park, however due to being very popular on nice days parking ca be a nightmare and the cafe really busy.
Overall it is a great place to visit and very family friendly.

Have now visited here several times. Fantastic little country park, especially for families. Whether it's for walking, dog walking, scooters, or bikes, this place has it all. My eldest boy enjoys the big bike track, as well as the play park. We've met friends, and I've recently had another baby, which I can happily walk the tarmac paths with. Picnic areas, but would highly recommend the cafe! The food and drinks are reasonably priced, and good quality. Especially recommend the Luxury hot chocolate. Great day out

We walk from our house with our springer spaniel regularly to this park. We keep him on a lead as lots of dog walkers visit here. There is a big car park if people want to drive. Lots of activities for families are put on especially in the summer. The grounds & surroundings are lovely. The cafe is amazing for a meal, snack or a coffee. There are toilets & baby changing facilities in the cafe.

I visit this place a lot as I am able to allow my dog off the lead in the knowledge that other visitors to the sidings will not complain as there are plenty of other dog walkers using the place for the same reason. My dog loves the place as he is able to roam freely jumping in and out of the water as we walk along as there are streams and lakes within the grounds.. The area is spotless and the play park is ideal for smaller children and the only place where dogs are not allowed which I totally agree with and understand. However, most dog walkers treat the place with respect and this is why dogs are accepted here. Only complaint I have is that the cafe is over priced which is why I will only buy a hot drink when I pop in with the dog, which is a real shame as the cakes always look gorgeous but at £3.50 a slice I will not indulge as I personally think that's a lot of money for just one piece of cake.
