The superb gardens at Ness on the Wirral Peninsular, overlooking the Dee Estuary were founded in 1898 by Arthur Kilpin Bulley; a Liverpool cotton merchant with a passion for gardens and plant collecting. Today the stunning 64 acre gardens have won a succession of awards including Large Attraction of the Year for Cheshire and Liverpool City Region and coveted RHS Gold Medal display garden at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park. The Horsfall Rushby Visitor Centre provides a warm welcome to this Cheshire Garden of Distinction. Ness Botanische – display garden by TV presenter and garden designer Chris Beardshaw and Making Waves garden by award winning designer Pippa Probert. Our newly launched restaurant The Garden Kitchen serves quality locally sourced food along with the Garden Grub kiosk in the garden. An extensive events programme runs throughout the year.

Ness Gardens is a gem, a true gem. Not only is it inexpensive but it is full of lovely nooks and crannies, beautiful flowers and examples of gardening and gardens that are a delight. Lots of sustainable factors too and no need for kids to be bored. Nice cafe and friendly staff, always worth a visit.

Visited during autumn and still lots to see. This is a botanic garden and so is a collection of plants rather than a garden as such, but well worth a visit for its views as well as its plants. The restaurant looks worth a visit for an interesting lunch menu but we only had drinks mid morning. Our visit was... More

Thank you so much for your lovely review of Ness Botanic Gardens. The gardens are stunning at the moment with lots of autumn colour and falling leaves. It would be lovely to welcome you back soon, perhaps during the winter or the spring when we have the most magnificent Snowdrop display. More

Wonderful colours throughout the gardens when I visited yesterday. I had a peaceful, relaxing couple of hours. There are plenty of benches where you can take in the view across to north Wales. It's a long time since I was last here, and it seems there's a lot more provision for people with restricted mobility, which is quite an achievement... More

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. The gardens are beautiful at the moment and the colours have been quite spectacular this autumn. The views over to North Wales are exceptional and we are all waiting for the first snow fall on the hill tops. I do hope that we will be fortunate enough to welcome you back soon. More

What a calm soothing delight to visit. We went to see the autumn leaves and it was well worth it. There are fantastic views of the Clwydian hills of north Wales across the Dee estuary that were worth the trip even if the garden's hadn't been glorious. Ideal for children with bags of energy they can run up and down... More

Thank you so much for your wonderful review of Ness Botanic Gardens. The Gardens are looking stunning at the moment - Autumn is probably one on the most beautiful times of the year here at Ness. I do hope that you will visit in the winter, especially on a really "crispy" day when the Gardens do look stunning. We definitely... More

A very interesting garden, even in the Autumn. The garden is well signed so you can plan your walk. We particularly liked the menu in the restaurant. Be prepared to spend a full day there.

Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to these gardens. Well laid out and a lot to see. Great views across the Dee estuary to North Wales. Very cheap to get in if you're a student!
