About
The superb gardens at Ness on the Wirral Peninsular, overlooking the Dee Estuary were founded in 1898 by Arthur Kilpin Bulley; a Liverpool cotton merchant with a passion for gardens and plant collecting. Today the stunning 64 acre gardens have won a succession of awards including Large Attraction of the Year for Cheshire and Liverpool City Region and coveted RHS Gold Medal display garden at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park. The Horsfall Rushby Visitor Centre provides a warm welcome to this Cheshire Garden of Distinction. Ness Botanische – display garden by TV presenter and garden designer Chris Beardshaw and Making Waves garden by award winning designer Pippa Probert. Our newly launched restaurant The Garden Kitchen serves quality locally sourced food along with the Garden Grub kiosk in the garden. An extensive events programme runs throughout the year.

A fantastic day enjoying the sunshine with our local community group. We were taught lots about plants and pollinators by our wonderful host Rose, with children and adults enjoying the talks and chance to see flowers, bees and other insects up close.

Would highly recommend!

I wanted to say a great big thank you to all the wonderful staff at Ness Gardens, one of my favourite places. We popped into the cafe and had a very nice lunch . Unfortunately I left my coat behind. The amazing staff made sure it was returned to me.

Beautiful place, great for kids. No dogs allowed so it is very clean; kids can run around, roll on the grass pick up leaves etc without getting covered in dog poo (unlike most of the parks around here!). It is stunning all year round (we have been members now for 5 years). Just love it here.

I visited many decades ago, I remember it was the day of the Grand National so Spring, and the enormous wall of rhododendrons were flowering. This time we were impressed by the scale and different areas and plantings. I hadn't remembered the views over the River Dee to North Wales which was a lovely backdrop. A modern building has good facilities, though the cafe seemed to have rather a limited range. We would certainly try to return again in the Spring for the rhododendrons.

Beautiful gardens, had such a nice relaxed day here. Fabulous plant life, was such a vast collection. Brought lots of snacks for a picnic, there was so many benches and cosy spots to sit down for a picnic and enjoy the stunning views over deeside. Was dog free location also so no disturbances while having lunch and no issues with dirty paths. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are visiting wirral.

What the hell has happened?
Find a hidden pumpkin. I’ve been every year for the past 5 years. Couldn’t believe the zero effort in comparison to previous years. I appreciate the staff volunteer but literally NO enthusiasm on entry.
