An Exceptional Afternoon
Jul 2021
We recently attended one of Emma’s special events: a vertical tasing of the Argentinian wine Clos de los Siete followed an asado (BBQ). Emma, warmly and with her expert knowledge, explained the history of the wine and about the area in which the grapes are grown. She gave us guidance on how to taste wine before leading us through sampling 10 vintages from 2018 to 2003, detailing the different weather conditions experienced in each year and encouraging us to consider differences in taste and colour. We then had a real feast of grilled meats and salad accompanied by glasses of our favourite vintages. The immersive experience transported us to Argentina in the middle of the pandemic without leaving the Corbières. We left with a greater appreciation of how wines develop and how they pair with food. We thoroughly recommend La Maison du Rire to learn more about wine in a lively and welcoming environment.

AMAZING
May 2021 • Solo
I have enjoyed two food and wine tastings now, one at the school HQ and one at a wine domain... Both equally AMAZING! Great tips on how to taste, choose and pair wines with food. Fascinating stories about the wines and their producers and the most delicious food. Can't wait until the next one...

Fantastic experience cannot wait to go again
Sep 2020
I just attended my second wine and tapas pairing with Emma Kershaw at Maison du Rire. I cannot say enough about how educational, fun, entertaining, and delicious this experience is. Emma is a wonderful teacher and host. The wines she choses to go with each amazing dish she prepares are just perfect. This event was a special tasting of wines with foods that are spicy (not just hot spices, exotic spices from around the world). Emma chose wines from the Languedoc region and there is a lot to choose from. It is a very relaxing atmospher and the setting is beautiful. Whether you are a beginner wine taster or an expert, you will certainly enjoy this experience. I can't wait to go to another one.

Informative and fun lunch
Mar 2020
Emma is hugely knowledgeable about wine and passionate about the region. A really informative and excellent value experience discovering some new and delicious wines and how to pair them with food. We took guests who are interested in wine but would happily go back again with local friends and discover some more. Very entertaining. Worth the hike out into the Corbieres and easy to twin with a visit to Lagrasse or other local highlight.

Really Interesting and Great fun
Mar 2020
I have seen Emma at work at my gites - offering her high level of wine expertise in a fun and informative way and noted with envy the delicious fait a la maison, organic and seasonal dishes that she had prepared especially to go with each wine. So today I went along to a Wine and Tapas tasting at her beautiful school in the middle of the Corbieres. The wine was delicious, the teaching really interesting and the food!! Oh my!! It's more than tapas so do not eat before - it brings your understanding of wine to another level when you pair it with the right food . I definitely will be recommending this to all my guests who come to my gites and even if you are not staying with me - Go!!

Super introduction to the wines of the Languedoc Roussillon
Jan 2020 • Couples
Emma is incredibly knowledgeable about the wines of the Languedoc and beyond as well as being an excellent chef. We tasted some interesting, excellent wines and the paired tapas were delicious. This is the second time we have visited the Maison du Rire, the first as part of a small lunch group and this time as part of a much larger group visiting from the US, both events were excellent - an opportunity not to be missed!

Wine Tasting with Emma Kershaw
Sep 2019
Stayed near to where La Maison du Rire is and booked Emma Kershaw to do a wine tasting of the Languedoc- Roussillon area. Rather than go to the Maison she came to our holiday home. (Which wasn't too far from where she lived.) We had been recommended Emma by the owner of our holiday property.
There were 10 of us and Emma not only brought 8 wines for us to taste but she also brought a tapas dish to compliment each wine and for us to taste. (She used our kitchen to prepare the precooked tapas.)
The talk consisted of a discussion on the local area wines but she also showed us tasting techniques and how to shop for wines. Her knowledge of wine was exceptionally high and we had a great time drinking the superb wines (fizzy/whine/rose/red) that she brought along together with eating the fantastic tapas dishes she prepared. The whole tasting took about 4 hours.
We learn't alot about the wines (and wine in general) and really really enjoyed the evening.
Well done Emma!!
We had booked the tasting event on the 11th September 2019

Absolutely superb experience of wines and cuisine of Languedoc Roussillon
Jul 2019 • Couples
With a few friends, we attended Emma's afternoon of wines and tapas. She is a lovely, energetic, enormously knowledgeable ambassador for the wines and cuisine of Languedoc Roussillon. She is a master at helping her visitors -- experienced and inexperienced alike -- to hone their skills and awareness of the tastes, aromas and experiences of the wines of this region. She emphasizes and demonstrates how both wine and fresh local food benefit enormously from playing well together. She delights in finding and sharing the wines of local, often small wineries, many of which are organic. We tasted 8 wines from all over the region (one sparkling, three whites, four reds). She had prepared delicious regional tapas to accompany and enhance each wine. We can't recommend enough Emma's wine and tapas tasting: wonderful host, delicious food and wine, lots to learn and just plain enjoy.

Superb food, wine, and education
Feb 2019 • Friends
The manager of our gite highly recommended Emma, and we were certainly not disappointed. Emma usually does her food and wine pairing for 6, but kindly accommodated we 4, there in off-season. The lesson was booked for 3 hours, but we spent nearly 4 laughing and listening to Emma’s fabulous lessons on the wines of Languedoc-Rousillon and tasting the traditional recipes she prepared to pair with the 8 (yes 8!) different bottles.

Emma’s ethic is to cook with local and seasonally available food. Recipes ranged from an octopus and tomato pie to wild boar stew, made from a boar shot by a friend just down the road. We loved all of it.

Can’t recommend highly enough!

The most amazing wine and food
Aug 2018 • Friends
Whilst staying at Le Sarrail we had the absolute pleasure of enjoying Emma's amazing knowledge of wine along with her magnificent food. Without a shadow of doubt this wine tasting with food is an activity not to be missed. It is hard to put into words just how good Emma is, the wine tasting and learning alone is amazing! When paired with the unbelievable food then this is an experience not to be missed. Thank you so much and we cannot wait to spend an evening with you again soon!
