About
Garden of four acres closely planted with many rare trees, shrubs and perennials open to the public for the National Garden Scheme, a charity which benefits mainly cancer and nursing charities. We are open most days, but it is advisable to check our phone message to avoid disappointment. Llwyngarreg continues to develop further, delighting plant lovers with its many rarities incl species Primulas, many bamboos with Roscoeas, Hedychiums and Salvias extending the season through to riotous autumn colour. Trees and rhododendrons have been underplanted with perennials. The sunken garden for tender/exotic gems and gravel terraces with formal pool continues to mature. Springs form a series of linked ponds across the main garden, providing colourful bog gardens.

Visited this garden today and have to say it was fabulous and well worth the trip out to see it.
Live Willow used to construct seats, arches and dens, also bamboo used for artistic wind mobiles.
The garden is a bit of a maze so be careful not to miss any of it.
Owners developed this garden from scratch which is an amazing achievement and continue to develop it.
Just don't miss it.
Regards from the Beduth Appreciation Society.

An absolute gem of a garden far from the crowds. Different “rooms” and little vistas everywhere. Planting from dry/gravel to meadow to bog garden. Beautiful rhododendrons in flower at this time of year, but lots of unexpected plants too, including less hardy plants like beschorneria. All interspersed with garden art, topiary and living willow sculptures. Something new to see around every corner.
It took the afternoon to do it justice. All enhanced by Paul’s lively, entertaining tour and description of the planting and Liz’s enticing selection of plants to buy. (I bought plenty!)
Be aware to take enough cash to pay the £5 admission, and for the homemade cakes, drinks and plants. It’s for charity and as a private garden they don’t have a card reader.
It’s on our list for every time we visit now.

Thank you for your review and I’m glad you liked my intro to the garden. Do come at a different time to see a completely different range of plants in flower.

Blown away by this amazing garden. It is a huge 4 acre area filled with lots of established trees and shrubs. Magnolias, Rhododendrons and Bamboos are in plentiful supply. The stream running through the garden is highlighted with bridges and a vast array of water loving plants. My favourite, though a difficult choice, was the wild grass area full of Snake’s head Fritillary. ( An idea I am going to use in my own garden). I also loved the home made whimsical ornaments and living structures dotted around. I most certainly will be back to see the garden whenever I am in the area again. The enthusiasm of Mr O’Neill was a joy to see and he kindly let me have a couple of plants to take home. And all this started because students of his bought him a Rhododendron and the rest they say is history.

I'd say if you were a garden enthusiast visiting west wales this is THE garden you should make sure you visit, and was definitely the highlight of our trip.
From the moment we arrived and were welcomed by Paul O’Neill, it was just a fantastic experience. Despite the fact that the garden is relatively small (4 acres) we spent over three hours there. It is absolutely packed with interesting plants and planting combinations, about which Paul and Liz were happy to answer questions; they are also able to provide fascinating insights into the 20 year process of creating this garden about whch they are so obviously passionate.
As well as the plants, the garden is full of other quirky bits and pieces, such as seats made from living willow, mobiles and wind-chimes, and pieces of artwork; we especially liked the tile and stone mosaic sitting area near the stream created by Liz. Although this is a really attractive garden if you're a plant enthusiast, it’s so well-designed that it will appeal to a wide range of people (there are some lovely touches for children too).
The garden is open for charity, and while it's "open on most days" it does not have fixed opening hours. Therefore *it's essential to get in touch with Paul and Liz before visiting using the information on the website*.
The only problem with this garden is that it sets such a high standard that most others will seem rather prosaic in comparison!

This was one of the best gardens we have ever visited. The attention to detail and the variety of plants and trees carefully maintained by just two people, husband and wife, is truly brilliant. If you are ever near Whitland please go and see this garden especially as all monies go to charity.

What a wonderful afternoon spent in this awe inspiring garden, beautifully and sympathetically created, to encapsulate the natural undulations of the landscape. Around every corner, cleverly executed glimpses, of colour, structure and craft, tantalise and encourage you to keep exploring, until you arrive at the next destination.
Paul’s “hole” is not to be missed, with its myriad of exotic planting, fragrantly guiding you to an expertly excavated, warmly inviting, gravelled seating area to rest your weary bones.
Liz and Paul are such generous hosts, happily imparting their years of knowledge to assuage our thirst for answers.
I can confidently say, being a person of limited mobility, (I used a pair of crutches today), that I comfortably, but slowly, managed to make my way around most of this wonderful garden and thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon with friends, Thank you Luz and Paul, we will be back!!

Thank you for your lovely review. We enjoyed your groups company in the garden and paid us the ultimate compliment of really looking at the garden rather than rushing round. We have missed having visitors to share the garden especially such generous ones!

A beautiful garden in a tranquil setting with new delights awaiting you around every corner. The hosts Paul and Liz are knowledgeable and very welcoming. An added unexpected bonus was that Paul personally showed us around the garden. We enjoyed it so much that we did not really want to leave and indeed my daughter went around twice so entranced was she. Liz provided a lovely tea (her ginger cake is to die for) We bought lots of plants which were very reasonably priced and also the book The Great Gardens of Wales. If you don't have time to visit all the lovely gardens featured make sure that Llwyngarreg is top of your list.
Thank you Paul and Liz for sharing your bit of paradise with us.

It was a real pleasure to show Caroline and yourself around the garden. It gives both of us a real sense of achievement when appreciative visitors spend a long time in the garden and ask lots of questions. Even more when they struggle to drag themselves away. You are more than welcome to visit at any time, but just check our phone message to ensure we are open. More ginger cake will need some notice!

Searched for a garden we hadn’t been to and came up with this one, what a great decision. Can’t describe how good it is in words, you need to go and see it for yourself, so make the effort it’s well worth it. There’s not many gardens you get a guided tour round, Paul pointed out several things for us to see then let us get on with it. The thought and planning they have put into it is shown by what they have there now and is a credit to them.
Will look forward to returning at a different time of year.

Absolutely gorgeous garden worth a good hour or more to explore! We went as part of the National Garden Scheme and we so delighted to have done so. The garden is a mix of forest, water, more formal garden and also farm (with ducks and chickens). The owners are so friendly and very happy to talk about their 20 year experience building this incredibly special place in West Wales. Would be great with kids as there are lots of little nooks and crannies to explore and some very well integrated sculpture to find! Highly recommended,

Visited as part of Gardeners World 2for1 voucher.
This garden exceeded our expectations and was by far one of the best we have visited over the years. We met the owners and they kindly showed us round and answered a bunch of questions. Afterwards we were allowed to wander round and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the garden. We especially noticed the bird noise, something sadly lacking where we live. We’d highly and I mean highly recommend visiting!

Thanks for the lovely review. I enjoyed showing you around the garden and your appreciation of what we are trying to achieve was evident. Last evening the bird song was particularly noisy - what are they all shouting about!
