This is a good place for a gentle walk along paths and boardwalks around the lake, with the option for an additional detour through the woods. There are three car parks, one with a tourist centre, toilets and cafe, where there are also some picnic tables. There is a large field area for playing games but no children's playground..

Went for a trip out and a picnic on a warm Saturday afternoon. Having never been here before we thought it would be a nice place to go. We weren't wrong. Easy to get to from Newcastle, with plenty of parking. The lake and surrounding area are nice and peaceful. Paths well laid and easy to follow, with plenty of... More

A great place to visit with children or dogs, you can just find a place to sit and chill or walk at your own pace. We have been going for years and will always go back

Nice walks, well laid, out, good surfaces. Plenty of free car parking but could do with better signposting to the visitor centre from the road but it's not far from the other car parks. Lots of benches in good positions. Didn't see any red squirels but plenty of evidence from well chewed cones.

Bolams lake country park, great place to visit whether you have dogs or not. Lovely walks now with the new paths in place. Very disabled friendly, small visitor centre although only open at certain times of the year. Could do with a permanent Ranger on station,as didn't see one.

Small enough to walk around in an hour or less, Bolam lake attracts families and walkers who just want to get away from city smells and sounds. The trees are mature; imagine tall grey beech trees, pretty alders at the water's edge and knotted rhododendrons, which create shadowy places to lurk and play. If you're into bird-life, there's plenty to... More
