Decided to take a slight detour from our NC500 trip and was worth the stop. Cute little village and nice area to stop for a picnic (If you're lucky and get the weather!)

Was great to meet the mermaid of the north. Not a far walk from the beach, better to go with the tide out so you can get to her :)

If you take the short detour to visit Hilton, Balintore, and Shandwick which are known collectively as the Seaboard Villages, you will see the mermaid sitting on a rock, and is completely visible at low tide, and if you are careful when walking on the...More

If you like Antony Gormley, you will just love this sculpture. She sits on a rock, fully visible at low tide and gradually becomes bathed in the modesty of the sea as the tide comes in. She isn't beautiful by facial looks at all. However...More

The community hall cafe has everything you could want, good coffee and cakes and a warm welcome. The mermaid sit elegantly on a rock the day we stopped by there was a sea mist making it very atmospheric. We will definately be back

As we were staying a couple of days in Balintore we stopped by this mermaid. Don't drive to this town for this lady only as she's not worth it
