Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Traditional jams, honey, chutneys and elderflower and acacia cordials are the hallmark of this excellent enterprise in the fantastic countryside of Transylvania. A tour of the ultra-clean factory followed by a tasting of its products under the guidance of the delightful and knowledgeable staff make this a not-to-be-missed experience in a much under-rated country.
A visit to Saschiz with lunch at the village Inn followed by a tour of the nearby Pivnita Bunicii jam and cordial factory provides a fascinating insight into the flourishing small enterprises that are fast becoming the lifeblood of this proud region of Romania If you visiting the stunning medieval city of Sighişoara then don't miss out on a visit to Pivnita Bunicii at Saschiz - just half an hour's drive away. You'll come away loaded with jars and bottles of the true taste of Transylvania

A visit to Pivnita Bunicii is a must if you are staying in and around the delightful, medieval village of Saschiz or simply passing through on the E60. Follow the signs from the E60 that will lead you there. "Grandma's cellar" stocks a delicious range of traditional jams, chutneys and locally produced honey as well as cordials. The jams, chutneys and cordials are produced in a spotless modern facility, in small batches using traditional recipes. A taste experience is a delight but choosing what to buy is very difficult particularly if it has to be packed in luggage to fly home. Loved the acacia cordial but don't think it would have survived a trip home. It is clear that this excellent enterprise is an asset to Saschiz and the local area.

Nov 2015 • Couples
We are a young couple who looked for a few quiet days in the beautiful medieval town of Sighisoara. While visiting Saschiz a nearby village where the ruins of the citadel bearing the same name can be found out, we were pleasantly surprised to also discover a nice small factory which produces all kinds of delicacies: jams, marmalades, cordials/syrups and a large variety of interesting chutneys.
This is Grandma's Cellar, aka, in Romanian: Pivnita Bunicii.
We had a very warm welcome from the manager who showed us around and introduced us to a delicious palette of tastes.
We will certainly come back for more, especially for the Elderflower pressee, the plum and garlic chutney and the rhubarb jam, definitely trying some other goodies next time.

I have taken several groups of visitors to Saschiz - and a visit to taste their products has always been a highlight. A real social enterprise that brings benefits across the community. And being able to buy HRH Prince Charles jam and honey at the source provides really good gifts.
The team there are always welcoming and the products tasted exceed the small cost for the taste experience.... good to walk it off with a stroll in the village extends the day nicely... looking forward to discovering new products this year.

On a trip through Transilvania I had the chance to taste from the sweets made at Pivnita Bunicii. They have local jams and sirups made from local fruits. It is a good opportunity to see how a local business can prosper in a remote location. Also you could order online their products and have them delivered at your house.

I am glad we were able to visit Pivnita Bunicii on our vacation. Our daughter-in-law used to be the manager and we got to see the place we had heard so much about. We stopped by on our way to Sighisoara and enjoyed a little tour. It was interesting to see where the products were made and hear all about the process. The cordials (favorites are cherry, acacia, and elderflower), jams, and chutneys are so good. The village is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it was nice to see how this factory meshed with the village.

Tasty. A bit too expensive but a nice souvenir. They do not use preserves and it is easy to check it - once open the jar is either quickly eaten or even when kept in the fridge it molds. Good sign!

Glad that you liked our products and sorry you found them expensive. Sadly this is the reality, both the fruit and the labour is much expensive than a few years ago.

Good food, a bit more expensive for the real production costs. I am sure the products are all natural as they don't last very long in the fridge..

Glad you enjoyed our products. The jams are little bit more expensive due to the fruit content being much higher than commercial jams
