Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went here by scooter (3 Hours from Senggigi). All the local guides at the start Will telt You that you need a guide and that you cant find it yourself. Absolutely Not true! The path is easy to find all the way to the second waterfall were you Can swim. You have to cross the river but That can easily be done without guide. The entrance fee off 10.000 was alle paid. A perfect day with spectacular views af the waterfall sand mt Rinjani.

The walk to these two waterfalls (Tiu Kelep and Sindang Gila) is a good couple of hours round trip and well worth it. Absolutely breathtaking scenery and swimming in Sindang Gila is unforgettable. There's a cave behind the falls that is nice to climb into and it is so refreshing to swim there after the hike you won't want to leave.
Watch for wild monkeys on the way and be careful walking up the river, it can be a bit dangerous at times. This little trek is a nice warm up for climbing Mt Rinjani and you get to enjoy plenty of exposure along the way.
Don't miss these waterfalls if you're in the area. Worth visiting to see them and the majestic Rinjani close up.

Many reviews talk about a short walk and not expending energy. I am not sure why they spent hours to get there and then not visit properly. The first waterfall is a simple level walk them down some steps. Good fun watching people getting wet, very pretty. Where the challenge and fun is, is the walk to the second waterfall. You have to walk up hill, over an aqueduct and up though a river, ruined my espedrils!! So what, it was brilliant and the local lad who guided us was excellent.
If you go you must do both or there is no point.

My wife and I travelled to Senang Gila Waterfall via Gili Harbour (Jetty). It took us 1 and half hr to reach the location. It didn't help that my trusted taxi driver provided little info of the area. Anyways, here is my honest review. Date of travel: 08 Feb 2012. Time: 1500hrs. Mode of transport: 1 Day travel fr Sengiggi to Gili Island to Gerumg Waterfall to Senang Gile to Sengiggi by Taxi= RP400,000 (Negotiated Price for two). Fyi, Gerumg waterfall is located 20mins drive fr Gili Harbour (Located deep inside the village with no proper route and it is free- donation to the villagers manning the area)
Senang Gile Review:
Arrive @ 1500hrs, approached by a male "tour guide head" and discussed on the plan ahead. Offered RP 300,000 for two pax inclusive of food, entrance ticket etc. Requested w/o food etc except for the "ticket" which review states would cost RP10,000 each. After bargaining, paid RP170,000 for two with no food etc and RP30,000 as tips for the "guide".
The entrance was not manned by anybody and we entered expecting a decent track (Since we were in slippers). However, the coditions of the track was littered with rubbish, broken trees (HUGE ones!), "challenging" tracks, crossing of rivers with no proper safety railings and the list goes on. In short the safety of the route particularly to the 2nd waterfall (abt 30-45mins tracking) equals to zero. So do not bring kids in! We saw a few broken and run down signages, bridges that are mouldy with no safety railings (if you fall its at least 100m down!)
We had to manouvre around broken branches and fallen trees. The "guide" informed that heavy rain was the root cause of it (no pun intended). By the look of it, it seems like no Government body or authorizing body has maintained the area for public use.
However, the "guide" was helpful to assist us in our trekking and help us with our bags and slippers. Waterproof shoes are recommended for safety reason as the track is slippery and the only way up is down 100 to a few hundred metres down the edge. The 1st waterfall which would take 10-15mins walk pose no obvious danger, but to the second waterfall danger is spelled all over the place. I feared for my wife safety as much as mine as she almost slipped while walking in slippers throughout the journey. And i would have to save her rolling down the high slopes and a lifetime of regret.
I would recommend it if somebody fixed proper safety nets, railings and tracks for visitors. Though as much as possible not to disturb the natural surroundings too much. In this case minimal safety precautions are in place. If you are visiting only the 1st waterfall, NO "local guide" is recommended. You can walk down easily. For those heading to the 2nd waterfall (tiu kelep) a guide is recommended to watch over ur safety at the very least. The 2nd waterfall has cooler water and more magnificent view than the 1st waterfall. As for me, as long as the place is not revamped and maintained by the relevant authorities I am not planning to head there again. To those adventurous visitors, climb the 3rd waterfall (Mount Rinjani) for a more fulfilling experience. For the faint of heart, take precautionary for the 1 & 2 Waterfalls. For RP170,000, its worth the waterfall experience but not worth me and my wife life. Thats my personal opinion.

Do not go here if you don't plan to climb Rinjani because you'll waste your time. This place is right at the foot of Rinjani and almost nothing to see. Not worth 2.5 hour drive from Senggigi.

Walk with a guide. Beautiful location. Must if you go on the island of Lombok. Refreshments available before the visit because the village of Senaru includes restaurants and small shops. Village step for trekking. Many agencies offer trekking Lombok (Mount Rinjani) from Senaru. Only opportunity to visit the 3 cascaques (including Tiu Kelep).

I might have my waterfalls mixed up, but these were truley breathtaking and worth paying the guide $35 to take us down. Its beautiful, and the Hindus believe the waters have healing powers.

Firstly, the waterfall is named wrongly in Google Maps. The first waterfall is Sindang Gila, which is pretty normal and nothing to shout about. Some stores(not open when we're there in the morning around 8am+) are located around the waterfall area and it is a short 15min walk from the entrance.
You can't take a dip in the water. As the area is elevated almost like a platform. Don't need a guide for this waterfall.

A lovely walk into the waterfall, monkeys on the way. The waterfall is beautiful and you can easily access the river and waterfall. The water looks cold but its warm. Its a real wow feeling to stand under the waterfall. It;s a great place to visit. A 20 min walk onwards takes you to an even more spectacular waterfall. The whole experience is magical.

What is the price of a guide to the 2 waterfalls? Is it compulsory to have the guide?
Written 5 July 2015
Entrance fee was just 10,000 rupiah. And no, you do not need any guide. The way to go to the waterfalls is clear. You can go on your own.
However, if you still want a guide, then, pay no more than 60,000 rupiah for a guide.

I would like to know what's the price of a guide to take me to tiu kelep waterfall? Is it price per person or per group? Going tomorrow, thanks

Bonjour,
Patricia

Hi there,
Yes there are 2 waterfalls. After a short walk you come to the first waterfall then a slightly longer walk you come to the second waterfall. You can swim in the pools at both of then. It is a magnificent place to visit, very worthwhile. We also had lovely food at the restaurant at the beginning of the walking track. I hope you enjoy your visit
