Terrible customer service by the owner when we visited in March. We arrived at lunchtime and were looking to have something to eat and buy a case of wine to take with us. As we had been driving for a few hours, before sitting down we asked where the bathrooms were. The male owner responded so rudely ‘they’re not public toilets, they’re for our customers’. We were certainly intending to be customers, but the encounter put us off entirely - we left without buying anything as we felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome.
I wrote in privately via the form on their website the next day and have never heard back from them.
There are so many wineries in the region offering amazing products and customer service, so I wouldn’t recommend stopping at Ironwood. We drove on a little further and ended up having a great experience at another cellar door.

We were staying at the Porongurup Campsite and on way back from walking we dropped in on the off-chance for some lunch. Luckily we were numbers 18&19 of the 20 people limit so managed to get a table.

Had some excellent wine and wonderful food ( pork sliders and Broccoli & Stilton soup).

The hosts were very helpful, they were doing all the right things for social distancing and keeping things clean.

It was a great pleasure and even left with some of their very nice wine.

Great place to visit

After walking up and down Castle Rock, we were looking for somewhere for lunch. Ironwood estate was nearby bad offered just what we were looking for.

It was a cold day so the warmth inside was appreciated, as was the coffee and lunch on offer: they offered soups but there was limited choice on offer for those wanting gluten free. I managed though.

We tried the wines: particularly liked the cab merlot. A pleasant venue, good spot for lunch and a great spot to get out of the weather.

We arrived as part of a group of parents with children. The adults were going to do wine tasting while the children were going to have something to eat. The woman who owns/runs the business came out and asked how many were going to do wine tasting. We indicated the 8 adults were. She asked how many were eating, but we were still doing the head-count when she rudely said, "We don't have enough eating for everyone..." (despite there being ample seating for our group) "...the rest of you will have to wait outside, because... Covid!"

Covid!? Seriously!? It's late December 2022 and the only places in the world with Covid restrictions are communist China and Ironwood Estate Wines!

There was no need to lie. If you're too lazy to make up food for paying customers because wine-tasting is easier and more profitable, just stop advertising food.

There are lots of local places to go where your trade is valued and the customer service is exceptional, so why waste your time here?

We won't be back. We won't be recommending it to anyone. We'll definitely be warning others not to waste their time too.

The day you arrived was extremely busy our tasting area already had a very large group, I thought it quite reasonable to ask the non wine tasters to wait at the picnic table to allow those tasting not to be too cramped. My covid comment was to explain we had a staff member off with covid and our kitchen was pushed to capacity, every table had been booked or was being used. Lazy I am not! , getting staff is extremely difficult and we are doing the best we can in these trying circumstances and at this very busy time of year, a little more understanding and maybe boooking a table in advance would have been helpful.

We had not visited this delightful family run vineyard/cafe for a few years, and following isolation, we were concerned it may have new owners or reduced quality. Pleased to report it is as good as ever.

Gene and Mary are a great duo with Mary making very filling lunches (I loved their pulled pork sandwich) and Gene works the cellar for tastings. Cannot fault the service, food or (and let’s be frank, this is what it’s about) delicious wine.

Best views in the Porongurup and very kid friendly (which is rare in that part of the world), this place is great.

Make sure you give their Labradoodle (cant remember the name) a good pat.

Ironwood is my favourite Porongorup winery. The hosts are very friendly and of course have great wines. Light lunches are also available with views across to the Stirling ranges. It is very easy to spend an hour or two at this location enjoying a meal and tasting their wines before loading up the car ( with wines) and heading off for the next adventure.

We arrived quite late, and starving. The lovely couple running the place were just seeing of their last customers. When we explained we hadn't eaten since starting our journey several hours ago they very kindly made us a light lunch. The wine was great and the views on the terrace overlooking the Stirling ranges was spectacular. Lot's of little birds and busy bees made it a very pleasurable experience. A lovely couple.

We were warmly welcomed Eugene and Mary. First tasted some excellent wines which led us to having a glass each with lunch. Both of us had the pulled pork sliders which were fresh and absolutely yummy. The views were fantastic and we left with some great bottles of wine. We will recommend this place to all our friends.
