One of the nicest sand beaches on the Kohala coast.

We chose the Recreation Area over the State Park

A smaller, more beautiful beach exists at the Recreation Area. And there are shade trees. It definitely has more character. So much more Hawaiian.

I love the mongoose everywhere... and the kitties....and the birds. I just love the wildlife period. The 3 Frogs cafe is located here in the parking lot and they really do have the best food on the island.

We really enjoyed our trip to Hapuna Beach. It has a great park and picnic area with lots of beach front area. There is a life guard, restrooms and changing areas and outdoor shower off areas. The beach is a beautiful white sand beach that was uncrowned when we visited on a Tuesday afternoon. The day we visited the water... More

We stopped by Hapuna Beach in the late morning. There were very few people there when we arrived and the water was lovely. It was pretty windy while we were there, so expect everything (including yourself) to get covered in sand if you decide to sit down and enjoy the view. I had better luck sitting among the morning glory... More

I've been to many beaches in Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, etc., and this really is one of the most beautiful. The sand is perfect, the ocean was warm, and the setting is stunning. However, it's not the best beach to actually go swimming at as it is almost unbearable on a windy day (which came often on my trip), especially with... More

Bustling beach with amenities available. There were chair and umbrella rentals, food for purchase, restrooms, picnic tables and much more. There is a lifeguard on duty during regular hours. Plenty of space to spread out. Next to busy resort which may impact your experience. In general, beautiful beach.

Hapuna beach is definitely my favorite beach. You never know what you'll find for water conditions. This morning it was flat calm so we swam out around the rocks. Once you get out aways the water gets very clear. Not the best snorkeling butbits ok. Most of the time the waves are big enough to boogie board and closer in... More

One of the few truly sand beaches on the island. And can be body surfed or boogey boarded even with smaller 1-2' surface action.

Lots of shaded areas to get out of the sun. Only $5 to park (access to state park). Great access to beautiful water.

White sand beaches and a gentle undertow the day I was there. Warm water. Easy access to the beach. Lovely. Washrooms, rentals. Can get quite windy.
