Overview

More
This fairy tale castle looks down majestically across the Alsace plain for more then 850 years. Towering at 757 m over picture perfect villages and colourful vineyards, it is one of France's most widely visited castles. Restored in the early 20th century, its current state reflects how it looked in the 15th century. Passing the main gate of the impressive Haut-Koenigsbourg is to enter the medieval world. An enjoyable and breathtaking experience!

I went to visit this castle with my 11 years old son. Be both had amazing time and great views from the castle. And the castle inside is a real treat for a little boy, so many rooms, doors, stairs, armoury and windows to Alsace....More

We took a train, then a bus to the castle. The trip was definitely worth it. Wonderful to imagine people living in those cold, stone rooms with fireplaces, layers of carpets on the floors, and perhaps many layers of clothes, watching from the heights for...More

We spent a Sunday morning walking around and exploring the castle and the grounds. As it sits on top of a hill the views are beautiful on a clear day. There is a small restaurant there as well.

The castle is great but the views alone are worth the trip. It sits high up on a mountain and overlooks the valley.

We drove the area on New Year's Day. We knew the castle would be closed, but thought we would see if we could get some photos anyway. It got dark on us, but we wandered up behind and around the castle. We captured a few...More

I read some of the ridiculous reviews complaining that there was not enough happening and comparing it to Versailles. Um, no. This is not one of those castles. It is an impressive stone fortress literally carved and built into the red stone mountain and is...More

Well worth a visit. This castle has been beautifully restored. Lots to see and amazing views over the countryside. Loved the armoury and the ramparts.
