- Ryan C2 contributionsNothing specialWas there for around 4 hours and it just felt like there was not much to see. Place feels rundown and definitely needs a bit of money pumped into it. May seem like there's a lot of enclosures but several of them are connected and the same animal. Talks were okay, Owl one was terrible, not even a talk. Going to try again in the sprong\summer as think I Amy have just went on a bad day. Also, main thing we wanted to was the otters but unfortunately they were not about on the day due to an emergency, we were told this was on the website, but it was not on the main page. About 30 of the over 40 species are just rats and mice probably. Thanks for your feedback. We acknowledge that some areas need attention and we apologise for that. With limited resources we prioritised the refurbishment of our Barn & Hedgerow areas and the extensive otter enclosures over the winter. This was to enrich and improve the lives of the animals in these areas. Plans are in place to improve areas that need attention, to take place over the next few weeks. The lunchtime' Meet the Owls' is not a talk but a chance to see the owls up close on the glove of the keepers, who are always willing to answer any question visitors have. The owl talk and flying demonstration takes place at 3pm. Information about the otters is on the Meet the Animals/Keeper Talk page of our website. The otters should be back on the talk schedule in March. We do hope you'll come back and see them and all our other wonderful species later this year.Written 16 February 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 February 2023

How can you charge entrance fee to see nothing. Ok to have talks but children want to see. Money should be refundedVisited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 February 2023
- Annie-FaithCobham, United Kingdom2 contributionsFew animals to be seenI have always wanted to have a look, but it is only open at weekends and Bank Hols, and mostly I do not have the time to stop. But today I did, and it was sunny (though cold). I get a Senior ticket but it was still £12.50. They gave me a little map and the first thing I saw was the owls, all of which were visible. I particularly liked the Little Owls, so cheeky and cute looking. There were a pair of them, but one was sitting on a branch right in the centre of the cage. I noticed that when children ran up, it flew to the back again, but stayed for me because I approached quietly. After that, it was a bit like the Emperor's New Animals! I can give you a list of all the animals I DIDN'T see. I didn't see hedgehogs, stoats, snakes, badgers, red squirrels, pine martens, polecats, otters, dormice, terrapins - all of which had pens or enclosures. Are terrapins British wildlife? - I don't think so. But I did see a Scottish wildcat - which looked very like my own tabby cat except a bit more sturdy looking, foxes, deer, a weasel, varied mice, a rat, a raven, and highland cattle. There was also a wetland boardwalk, but the only thing I saw there was a heron and a shoal of big fish. My favourite was probably the Little Owl, with the communicative raven second, and the weasel third. I particularly would've like to have seen the otters and the red squirrels, and probably will go back another time when the weather is warmer and hopefully more animals would be seen. There was a cafe and it was lunchtime but the toasted sandwiches were off they said and I didn't fancy anything else. The shop was small, but very well stocked with animal jewellery, crockery etc and lots of lovely good quality soft toys.Thank you for your feedback . We appreciate your comments. Our collection of animals are wild species and are not forced on display as they are in some traditional zoos. We wish them to live & behave as naturally as possible. On arrival all visitors are given a list of half hourly keeper talks, so you can view the animals up close and learn about them. The talks currently include Hedgehogs, Red Squirrels, Pine Martens and Otters, as well as Owl Display when you'll see a variety of British owls on perches and in flight. The animals invariably come out as they are given tit-bits by the keeper! These informative talks last about 10-15 minutes. With patience many animals can be observed in between these times out an about in their enclosures. Our red squirrels are a little slower at this time of year but can be seen on and off through the day. Snakes are hibernating and will emerge when the weather warms up. Our female badger is currently nursing cubs, so we are sorry that the badger sett is closed, while we minimise any stress for her. We hope you'll visit us again in the warmer weather when we are confident you will see more.Written 14 March 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2023Written 13 March 2023

What a brilliant place to learn about British wildlife! David Mills has done a fantastic job over many years to bring together such a variety of animals in the perfect environment for them. The natural settings mean that you need to patient at times, but it really is worth it. Highly recommended!

Very disappointing, enclosures poorly maintained some under water, appearance was somewhat run down could use some major investment and TLC even the owls looked depressed 😞

I took my class here and we had a wonderful time. We were met on arrival and greeted warmly. We had our own keeper called Luke who was so knowledgeable and very informative. He was absolutely excellent with the children. I would highly recommend visiting this place for a school visit or as a family. It’s great to get children interested in wildlife so that they will respect and care about our wild animals. We saw so many creatures up close. My class loved the foxes. I loved the badgers and otters too. They also loved Ethel the eagle owl. Thank you so much to all the staff. My class were so excited on the way home for 20 minutes then all was silent - they fell asleep!

Lovely place. Great wildlife to see. Especially enjoyed the red squirrel walk through enclosure. We went on a very hot day so some of the animals were hiding from the heat but still had an enjoyable visit.

A must to visit. The whole experience was a delight. The animals are kept in huge comfortable surroundings and the half hourly talks on the individual animals was so informative.
The cafeteria was clean and very reasonable and all the staff so helpful.

I have never been here before, it’s super cute. It’s like seeing the animals in real life in the wild. It was particularly nice to see the 8 badgers cuddled up, the red squirrels were tiny, bless them. We had a lovely day seeing the deer and the Wildcats
Very much recommend this place. Very interesting and we love The Field Mice

What a wonderful place. Fun for any age, looking at British wildlife and learning how we can help them. Talks every 30 minutes on different animals given by friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Plenty to see, despite the place not being very big. Spend a couple of hours or all day!

This is such a great day out. Beautiful wildlife and beautiful grounds. This was the third time of visiting and most definitely won't be the last. Thank you to the great team of staff who work hard to ensure visitors are educated about conservation of endangered wildlife in the UK.

Really good small wildlife centre. The staff were all polite and friendly, and the keepers were knowledgeable about the animals. There’s a different keeper talk every half an hour which does help you to see the more elusive animals. Enclosures looked well kept and suitable. If you don’t stop for the talks you could get around in about an hour but if you listen to some of the talks and spend time searching the enclosures for some of the animals that aren’t immediately visible then you could easily spend most of the day here. It was our first visit, I found it to be a very pleasant day out and will definitely return.

What a gem of a place! Fairly small but very spacious so not overcrowded, interesting talks, lovely enclosures for the animals with plenty of space and their welfare and enrichment in mind.
Some of the animals were hard to spot due to this, but I think this is a good thing as they could have "private time" if they wanted it. The staff here clearly love their jobs and pride themselves on educuation and aminal welfare.
The place was small enough that you could wait around and walk round more than once, which meant several we couldn't see did emerge at differing times!
We had a wonderful day out. Suitable for adults and children alike.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. Yes, we do respect the animals' right to private time and they are never forced out. But with patience you'll see them later in the day. Thanks for appreciating that and we hope you'll be back one day.

Is there a great deal of walking involved? And is there anywhere that an elderly person could sit and wait comfortably during inclement weather while their family go round?

Hello! Theirs not really alot of walking, though if you want to cover everything it does go quite far round. At the start theirs mice, foxes and others, abit further on is red squirrels, wildcats and badger weasel etc. Its only the deers and otters that are furthest way. Their are lots of benches dotted around. Theirs a nice cafe with seating and a great place to relax. I hope you do go because its a great little attraction. Look out for flo the beautiful fox.

Will the Centre keep a 7yr and 6yr old sufficiently occupied? I need them to let off some steam as well as enjoy the animal talks.. thanks

I believe your children would enjoy seeing our own wildlife up close and get to enjoy the keepers' interesting, passionate talks too; the animals have superb facilities and are all in excellent condition; certainly a recommended visit.

Our kid is just under two, loves spotting animals but we’re wondering if the surroundings would be safe enough to let him walk around and have fun? Thanks!
Liza L
Lingfield, UK
Yes, the surroundings are safe. The animals reside in large naturally landscaped enclosures and there are smooth, tarmac paths all the way round. The focus is very much on the animals at the Centre, with keeper talks held every half an hour so you'll be able to see the different species up close and hear all about them.
We have a small wildlife-themed activity area and picnic area, called Pip's Corner, where he can let off a bit of steam!

Do you have red squirrels that we could see if we visit please?

J_T_Babage
Yeah they do in a nice enclosure. Feeding time is about 9:30 I think so get there for them or you might not see them as they are quite elusive

From their website:
Public Transport
Unfortunately there are no scheduled bus services past our door, although residents of Tandridge District can use the special Buses4U service - a pre-booked flexible local service with no fixed timetable. Call 01372 20 45 40 to book.
The nearest train station is Lingfield on the London to East Grinstead line - from there you'll need a taxi, which will cost about £6 or £7. Unless you have a good Ordnance Survey map and are happy negotiating public footpaths across the fields (a lovely walk) we don't advise walking from the station due to the very busy road at the end of the route.

You can certainly use cards to buy your tickets and in the shop. I can't remember about the cafe - it's pretty small so I'd have some cash for that just in case. I hope you visit - it's lovely...
