Overview
More
The Chateau of Monbazillac dates from around 1550 and has been the property of Monbazillac Cooperative Winery since 1960. Its architecture is a mix of balance and dissymmetry shaped by the demands of medieval defensive style and the beginning of Renaissance. This protestant stronghold has been a listed Historic Monument since 1941. The Chateau is furnished and open all the year long for self-guided or guided tours. After the tour a wine tasting is offered to each visitor. Closed in january.

Beautifully restored chateau with many wine making exhibits and great views over the vineyards. A wine tasting is included with bottles of the local and excellent wines available for purchase at a reasonable price.

Some really interesting stuff. The wine museum and its explanation of the Monbazillac sweet wines especially interesting. Lots of local history, some beautiful period furniture and settings appropriate to the period and ethos of the Chateau. Some of the paintings were a bit drab and...More

Chateau is very pretty and historically interesting. Great wine tasting afterwards. Sweet wines the best! Perhaps nothing much for children to do unless they are history buffs!

The Chateau didn't inspire us - but its really just a sales outlet for the local wineries - with an art exhibition

We arrived late on a Sunday in May and the place was mobbed. I'm not sure if it was the day of the week or the art exhibition. The exposition was very nice but the chateau is a collection of things of various eras plus...More

Worth the visit, it will probably be nice in the summer months as it was a bit chilly and not many there

Nicely preserved castle with history dating back several centuries. The tour is self guided but they have descriptions in a few languages. Really enjoyed seeing this building and reading of the history. It played a major role during the Religious Wars.
