We explored Foix with the primary goal of visiting the chateau. Stumbling upon the Church of Saint Volusien was simply lagniappe. It suffered serious damage during religious wars, and has encountered a series of damaging restorations. It is worth a quick visit.

Walking around the church made us very curious, we definitely wanted to have a look inside. But we were really disappointed. There a just a few paintings and that is it.

Although badly damaged in the wars of religion, and unimaginatively restored, this church has some fine feaures: the Moorish-influenced south door, the amazingly thick walls, the XVIc choir stalls, the deposition tableau.

It is very nice old church in the middle of the Foix, very near to the castle, market and all the attractions of this old Catalan town.

Took a peek inside because I heard someone on the Organ inside doing a major number with it! I couldn't see who was playing but I had to sit and listen as it danced around the whole building. It was moving and yet it was...More
