About
Dog sledding is the best way of experiencing the Arctic nature. Let us take you on a ride to discover a new world. A world of stunning beauty, rugged landscapes and of silence – pure and breath-taking. Drive your own sled or enjoy the ride as a passenger, either way, we promise you the memory of a lifetime. Our lodge lies a short while outside of Alta city centre, surrounded by pristine Arctic nature. A team of huskies will take you out in pairs, as mushers or passengers, riding through the snowy forest and on the ice that covers the famous Alta River. There’s no better way of getting close to nature than this. While the huskies love to run in frigid temperatures, we’ll equip you with a thermal suit to keep the cold at bay. But don’t fear the winter – bask in its beauty. Welcome to Holmen Husky Lodge. A world of unreal contrasts. Next to nothing, close to everything. This is Arctic living.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I just finished the 5-hour River Tour today and it was great. Our guide was Tess and as I expected she was a complete professional focused on our safety and taking care of the dogs and providing the service I booked. What I was not expecting was someone with a passion for the sport and the dogs that she worked hard to share with us. She also took the time to really teach us some tricks in how to be a better musher and added more challenging trails as she increased our skill level. The highlight of the trip was when she took us off the trail into deep fresh snow!

I did the weekend trip and it has been one of my best holidays so far! Its really depressing writing this while im stuck in work. I would 100% recommend holmen husky. Everything was perfect!
The accommodation was clean and comfortable. The owners were very knowledgeable about the dogs and dog sledding and was always willing to answer any questions asked.
The dogs just want to run and you could see this when you stop and they looked back as in to say “come on, lets get going”. They were all friendly and very well looked after and you can tell the owners really cared for their well-being.
Overall this has been an amazing trip and one to remember. I would go back and do it all again tomorrow.

People and dogs were really friendly. They have around a hundred dogs with each sleigh being drawn by eight dogs. The ride took us through the woods in deep snow and covered a good few miles. Also had time to play with the younger dogs.

We are greeted with generosity. Lots of hot chocolate for the taking by a nice fireplace. You could watch the dogs outside and learn about them even as you waited (if you are early). Booked the trip from the Sorrisniva ice hotel and everything was well taken care of. (they have a good understanding). Thermal suits, boots, goggles, headlamps were all provided and NECESSARY!!! We were given a quick orientation and the ride was a delight! Extremely wonderful in the dark evening. Playing and petting the animals after the ride was fantastic. We got to learn about the dogs, company, races and lots of other stuff in a Lavvu around a fire with cookies and hot chocolate. Educational, fun, and a MUST DO

What a fantastic experience! We spent a few hours in the company of these magnificent dogs who couldn't wait to tow us. Being able to drive the sled was wonderful and I thought I wasn't capable but yes, it was easier than I imagined. We had a lot of fun. After the trip they offered us tea/coffee with biscuits around the fire and at the end we were able to cuddle the 125 dogs present! The girl who accompanied us was very good. Thank you!

Had a great and unique time at this place. Got to meet the puppies, one got their teeth into my camera bag.despite being a puppy he/she was Incredibly strong, Survived with me and the bag intact. Great video seen outlining how races are organised, including the 12,000 kilometre race through Nordic regions. Also had the ride in a two person sled controlled by a very competent Musher ( driver ). Riding through a snow covered forest at night powered by dogs
Was a stunning experience. A major highlight of my visit to Norway.

We had a great guide who picked us up from the tourist info building. She was very fun to talk to and knowledgeable about dog sledding and all the dogs. We did the dry dog sledding with wheels since it wasn’t snowing yet but it was still so fun! We first learned how to drive them and got to meet the dogs, then we went for about an hour ride, switching drivers halfway so we could each take a turn. When we got back we went and had some coffee and got to play with the puppies and meet all the other dogs. It was such a fun experience!

I borrowed the suit and boots since it was muddy and I recommend that if you don’t have proper clothes!

On the website when we were looking to book there wasn’t availability, but we called and they were able to book us so try that!

I visited Holmen Husky Lodge on a three night trip. It was absolutely brilliant! Everything about this trip was absolutely top notch. The accommodation is brilliant, very warm and cosy. The sauna and outdoor jacuzzi were absolutely sublime - the perfect place to relax after a busy day dog sledding!
The food was absolutely top notch - great veggie options too!
The staff were all absolutely lovely, and a special mention must go to Niklas, who was the perfect host.
And the dogs…the absolute stars of the show! They were beautiful. So keen to run, so affectionate, and clearly loved by those caring for them.
We spent three days sledding, including one ride under moonlight and two longer daytime rides, where we travelled through forests and along a frozen river, stopping for lunch with a campfire.
We were incredibly lucky to see the Northern Lights, which was the icing on the cake for an already perfect trip.
It was so good that I’ve already booked again for next year!

Mega nice Husky location. We were received very kindly and the three of us were shown around by a Dutch guide. All the huskies were very relaxed and approachable. The young huskies were super enthusiastic and the litter of 9 puppies also had a lot of fun. Also saw the owner's film of a 600km race, super cool. You can also sleep in large tepee-like tents with a fixed bed. If only we had known this

We visited as a tour excursion from our cruise ship. Not sledding but Northern Lights & meeting the huskies. We received a great welcome from the team (human and canine). No Northern Lights, as the sky was filled with snow, but great videos on both the Aurora but also all about husky racing. We were entertained all evening and really loved having cuddles with the huskies. Shame not to see the Aurora, but know it’s always a risk but not disappointed as we had such a great time.
