About
Dog sledding is the best way of experiencing the Arctic nature. Let us take you on a ride to discover a new world. A world of stunning beauty, rugged landscapes and of silence – pure and breath-taking. Drive your own sled or enjoy the ride as a passenger, either way, we promise you the memory of a lifetime. Our lodge lies a short while outside of Alta city centre, surrounded by pristine Arctic nature. A team of huskies will take you out in pairs, as mushers or passengers, riding through the snowy forest and on the ice that covers the famous Alta River. There’s no better way of getting close to nature than this. While the huskies love to run in frigid temperatures, we’ll equip you with a thermal suit to keep the cold at bay. But don’t fear the winter – bask in its beauty. Welcome to Holmen Husky Lodge. A world of unreal contrasts. Next to nothing, close to everything. This is Arctic living.

Had a great and unique time at this place. Got to meet the puppies, one got their teeth into my camera bag.despite being a puppy he/she was Incredibly strong, Survived with me and the bag intact. Great video seen outlining how races are organised, including the 12,000 kilometre race through Nordic regions. Also had the ride in a two person sled controlled by a very competent Musher ( driver ). Riding through a snow covered forest at night powered by dogs
Was a stunning experience. A major highlight of my visit to Norway.

Wonderful and unforgettable experience! The dogs, the (German speaking) guide, the nature, the action, the tea around the fire and the cuddles with the amazingly friendly dogs, don't miss it!

The welcome we received from the staff and dogs was outstanding. The joy with which everyone we spoke to shared their experiences was inspiring. The love the dogs have for what they do was heart-warming and the film about the Finnmarksløpet emotional - good luck for this year. We even had snow to accompany the wonderful sled ride. Thank you .

I always wanted to do the dog sled and now I can say I did it! It was great to be able to go for this adventure, meet the dogs and find out more about them from our lovely guide. We were provided with warm clothes and given tips how to deal with the dogs. The ride itself was great. I went alone (I was in Norway with my husband and our 16 months old son but he could not join as there is an age limit of 5 years to join) which was a bit sad but I met a great girl who joined me on the sled. I would highly recommend to do this activity. It was great!

Fantastic experience with the dogs. They are so friendly and cuddly. They are extremely well looked after by the staff who know them all by name(no mean feat) and have always got a pat or a scratch and a kind word for each dog.
The ride on the sled is exhilarating but not for the faint of heart as the dogs can run at quite a pace.
The husky’s are unlike those found in the UK as have German shepherd dog in their breeding and have wonderful temperaments. You can see that all the dogs want to do is work and have cuddles.
Wrap up warm as the windchill is significant on the sled. They can provide thermal suits at a cost.
This was a brilliant activity and highly recommended. It was the highlight of our Norway trip apart from the Northern Lights.

Had a really good time at the dog sledding and meeting all the dogs and puppy's. The guides were excellent but the only bad point was that I bought 3 chocolate bars equivalent to KitKat's back home and they RIPPED ME OFF big time charging me nearly £14 for 3 (very disappointed and I'll not go again).

Such an incredible 4 day experience. To travel through the Arctic Tundra on a sledge being pulled by the most enthusiastic and incredible dogs was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever done. It’s hard to find words to describe the sheer beauty of it all. The dogs are absolutely gorgeous and well trained, so friendly, cuddly and affectionate, you can tell that their wellbeing is a top priority to all members of staff. I loved how they let us get involved with the huskies, feeding them and getting them ready. Everyone of us developed a special bond with at least one dog. The accommodation (a cosy, warm tippy) food and hospitality throughout our stay was exceptional and the gear they supplied was excellent for the cold conditions. We even got to see the Northern Lights on a couple of nights which made it even more special. But what really made this a fantastic trip was our guides, Philip and Luís, who went above and beyond to make sure everyone was safe and enjoying themselves. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who loves dogs and nature. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you Holmen Huskies for your warm hospitality and a special thanks to Philip for all your enthusiasm, kindness, reassurance and good spirits.

Fantastic 3 day sledding tour with Huskies over the Finnsmark Plateau. We booked through Much Better Advetures in the U.K. and had the most fabulous experience. Every aspect was above expectations from the accommodation, the food, the transport and the adventure. Phil, Marco and team were exceptional! Knowledgeable, enthusiastic, insightful and great fun. Nothing was to much trouble and they looked after us brilliantly.
On arrival we were taken to the lodge and given waffles and hot chocolate, then we were fitted out with our Arctic suits that were clean, very high quality and very comfortable….not to mention very warm! Hats, boots, gloves, even socks and Google’s were provided so they have everything!
1st night we were introduced to the dogs and given instructions on how to control the sled and dogs. Very hands on with the huskies and sled set up, then off for a 6 ride around the local area tracking a frozen river and through the woods with a head touch as the light faded. Exhilarating stuff and excellent fun.
Then checked in to our beautiful teepee with perspective side for watching the Northern Loghts that gave us a magnificent display throughout the evening. Dinner was a hearty, delicious stew and much conversation with the other 9 guests around a communal table. The chalets/ teepees were delightful with wood pellet burners, blankets and duvets that kept us amply warm.
Next day we packed up sleds and dogs into a trailer and had a 20minute drive before setting the sleds up for a two day crossing of the Finnsmark Plateau. Great fun, spectacular scenery and brilliant guiding and information from Phil. We stayed overnight then sled fed back to the lodge the next day covering 60km in total.
Another night in our cosy teepee and another breakfast and then we were on our way home.
Just an EPIC trip, can’t recommend it enough and if you like adventure you really feel a bit Ranulph Finnes!
Thank you to Phil, our host, who made it so special.
BRILLIANT!
