- Catherine H16 contributionsGreat place to visit in all weathers.Amazing views. Stunning monument with historic planes. We visited just after the Spitfire was damaged by Storm Ciaran. We hope everyone that visits will make a donation to help this be restored. The cafe is exceptionally good value and the food is yummy. Cream tea for 2 is £8 and the tea is proper strong! The cafe is upstairs and has amazing views. The staff and Colin are so friendly and knowledgeable. The toilets are fabulous - worth going in to see the Spitfire doors! The building is fully accessible too. A brilliant place to visit!Thank you so much for your kind review and lovely words. - Leeds73Norwich, United Kingdom185 contributionsImpressive and movingWas gifted this as a Virgin Experience including a Prosecco cream tea. Needed to rearrange date several times and Audrey in the office could not have been more accommodating. Easy to find and friendly welcome from stepping through doors. We were lucky with the weather and it was gloriously sunny if bracing when doing the outside part. Our guide was very knowledgeable and informative. The “Scramble Experience” is one of the best interactive exhibits I have ever visited. The film as part of this was very moving and authentic. The recordings with the veterans (not just pilots) both video and audio brought that time to life. The view over the Channel from the Cockpit Café upstairs in the Wing is very evocative. The cream tea rounded of the day nicely and fortified us for the long drive back to Norfolk.Thank you so much for your kind review, Leeds73! We're so pleased you enjoyed the experience package, The Scramble Experience and that it was worth a long drive from Norfolk. We'll also pass this lovely feedback to Audrey.Written 27 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 November 2023

The most exciting and highly recommended part is the interactive experience. Well made for all the family to enjoy, its a great opportunity to involve everyone ob the wartime experience of the Battle of Britain. There are interactive maps and displays including a Hurricane flight simulator. Lots of parking. We look forward to welcoming you back 😊 – thank you for your kind words!Written 27 February 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 February 2024
- emuslushyLondon, United Kingdom399 contributionsLest We Forget - Tribute to The FewThis tribute to The Few is simple yet striking. A lone airman sits looking out over the Channel, waiting and watching. There is a wall of recognition to ALL those pilots who flew in the Battle of Britain. Seeing the names together shows just how Few they were. It is right that they are all remembered. There is also a replica Spitfire, Hurricane and Stuka. Don't miss BOB the dog. Lots of information around. The visitor centre was very interesting. There was a very reasonably priced shop, which was well stocked and cafe, which had a good range of reasonably priced items. The staff were very friendly and extremely welcoming. There is no charge for the memorial. You have to pay for parking, which was very reasonably priced and the entry to the Scramble exhibit. I didn't vist the Scramble but will on a future visit. Lest We Forget.Thank you for your kind review - we are so pleased you enjoyed your visit to the Memorial. We were shown round by Sam who is treausurer of the memorial trust .She has a wealth of knowledge about the site and the battle itself. My wife and I had a thoroughly enjoyable experience and the day was topped off with a lovely cream tea in the cockpit cafe overlooking the English Channel. Anyone who has an interest in the battle of Britain and how the few helped the allies win the war a visit is highly recommended especially if you're fortunate enough to have Sam as your guide..Five starsThank you for your kind review! The Site for the Memorial was chosen well as Visitors can enjoy lovely views across the Channel. The Architecture of the Visitor Centre and Cafe is quite stylish and pleasing to the eye. Wandering around the Site we were impressed with the Memorial Wall, the Memorial of a Pilot and the Models of Aeroplanes used during World War II. All in all the Battle of Britain Memorial is a fitting tribute to the Aircrews who fought so gallantly in World War II.We look forward to welcoming you back 😊 – thank you for your kind words!Written 1 August 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 July 2024
- chris G6 contributionsBattle of Brilliant memorialAbsolutely fantastic we had a guided tour with The very knowledgeable, informative and friendly Sam who showed us around the whole memorial including the scramble experience which was fantastic lots of videos and screens and information and insights into what it was like during that period of history. I've Always been interested in this and it's my first visit to the memorial building my first visit was not long after the site opened and before the building existed. I would definitely recommend the experience which also includes a delicious cream tea which is not to be missed. Thanks to all the lovely staff for a truly splendid few hours there.Thank you very much for your review!Written 2 September 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 August 2024

A Sunday morning in July, I arrived early as I wanted to see this Memorial without too many people around. It's a fantastic reminder of what 'The Few' did for us all, as people have said tranquil, peaceful & moving are the right words to describe this memorial. And to think it wasn't always like this, as this was Hellfire Corner.
Parking: A large parking area with spaces for the disabled and coaches, Fee is £1 an hour or £3 all day.
Entrance: Free (Scramble Experience about £6) but Donation boxes are around, £2 is the recommended amount for a visit.
Cockpit Cafe: Is upstairs in The Wing (there is a lift for people that need it) Prices are what you would expect. The outside area has a nice view of the site (No Smoking).
Memorial, Wall & Replica Planes: The planes look good, The Wall is lovely but humbling and the Memorial reminds you, that we should not forget what the generations before us went through for us to enjoy the peace we have today.
Overall I would say make sure you visit here and spend a couple of hours just walking around and enjoy this peaceful place, remember and donate (these places rely on people's donations. It is free but please don't forget the hard work that goes into running and maintaining these beautiful sites). Thank you, I loved my visit.

A lovely place to reflect how a few brave men halted Hitler in his steps. All known Battle of Britain pilots are remembered individually on the Foxley-Norris wall
The Statue of the lone pilot looking out to sea is very poignant. They have Spitfire and Hurricane replicas and you can walk around them. A great shop selling books and gifts. The Tee shirts are great value and look great.
I haven’t had a chance to visit the scramble experience but I will do very soon
Car parking is very reasonable
Fantastic location overlooking the white Cliffs. Brilliant spot for a cup of tea and a snack looking out over the channel, on a good day you can see France.and reasonably priced
I was so impressed I became a member. I have been many times, the last time was only a walk around the site as the Wing (housing the shop, scramble experience and cafe) was shut due to covid shutdown

We found this memorial by accident whilst doing a cliff top walk and it made our day. The staff were welcoming, with clear Covid-19 procedures and guidance. We paid just £5.30 for two people to visit the exhibition which was exceptional. The cafe had lovely food and drink with a terrace with sweeping views out to sea. All in all a very memorable visit. Highly recommended.

Hoped to visit here today with my partner. Unfortunately we were denied access as we were not wearing masks as my partner and I are both exempt for health reasons.
We were stopped by the most officious doormen in the universe who demanded to see our exemption certificates. When we pointed out that there is no requirement to prove exemption he became seriously aggressive. He was then shown the relevant page from the Government website he simply dismissed it.
I will be taking the matter further under the Disability Discrimination Act.

The Trust, Staff and Volunteers are following HMG guidelines and the law of wearing mask in indoor settings which our building The Wing falls into these settings. The Site Manager brought this issue up to the Trust and there is no evidence on camera and from witnesses inside the building at the time that the staff who spoke to you and your partner were officious or aggressive towards you.
The member of staff did not demand to see evidence of exemption of wearing masks he merely asked and whilst there is no law in having an exemption document it was simply suggested that this would be helpful to you if you did. The staff simply followed the guidelines and the law of the wearing of masks and this is why you were refused entry in a non-aggressive manner as you so put it.
We have a duty of care for our staff and volunteers but more importantly to our visitors who in the main are collaborating with the procedures and guidelines as can be seen from other entries.

So much information to absorb about the Battle of Britain and those that gave their lives to defeat the enemy. Plenty to see without actually spending a penny although there's so much more for all ages in the experience. Life sized replicas of aircraft and a specially designed site as a tribute. Gift shop not unreasonably priced with inexpensive things like pencils etc.

It says it all, I love it here, I'm came for my 29th birthday, since I was a boy I've been fascinated by the battle of Britain and this was the first time I'd experienced it on this level, I mean wow! I learnt so much, we went into to the beautifully made building met by a lovely gentleman on the desk who we paid our entry too, he explained that in this wing there were exhibits that didn't belong to them so he asked politely that we not take pictures in that area, fair enough, we went in and wow it was interactive, so many boards to read there were uniforms to try on me and my partner had great fun trying them on (the staff were lovely I'm sure if we'd of asked them they'd of let us take a picture of us with them on) for me I loved thr hurricane simulator, using all the info I learnt on the boards in the room I managed to shoot down 10 German bombers.
After this, we watched the scramble video and that really spoke to me when the gent said "Im just waiting to be taken" such a strong statement at that time really moving.
After this, we went out to the memorial oh my what a stunning memorial, I found my local squadron of 611 squadron. Absolutely loved it, the replica planes are in great shape.
The coffee shop was staffed by two heroes of the rainy day, having hot drinks ready when we came up and a beautiful sausage roll, yummy
I left here proud to be British and I learnt soo much, it was worth every penny. Highly recommend it a definite must if your near by.

The memorial is amazing with lots of information available but whatever you do don't stop for a coffee!! The poor staff having to serve up sachet coffees guising as Espressos at £2.50 a shot in large mugs. In addition, the Cappuccino was so watery I couldn't finish it. Come on it dosent take a lot to purchase a proper coffee machine. If the funds are unavailable then please stop advertising Espressos and Cappuccinos/Lattes. I really feel sorry for the tourists that come to visit this café and I understand we're not the first to complain. The place would be perfect otherwise.

Dear T4067 etc (please forgive me for not using your real name, but you don't reveal it) - I am delighted that you enjoyed your visit but sad that you focused so much on the coffee. The Memorial is a charity that depends to a large extent on volunteers who do their utmost to provide a warm welcome and a great experience. Occasionally there are issues with a new volunteer and a tricky bit of machinery, and I'm sorry that you may have fallen foul of that combination on this occasion. That said, of course, you had just enjoyed an amazing visit to a fabulous, immaculately maintained site that's free to visit (with the exception of the Scramble Experience) and you could have simply smiled and got on with your day. If you would like to help us purchase a 'proper coffee machine' (more costly than you imagine for a charity) and volunteer to man it on a couple of days a week, we would welcome you with open arms. In the meantime we are reviewing our coffee provision. Thank you for your contribution to that process.

With a subject like this it would be easy to hit the wrong note, and to indulge in either tacky sentimentality or jingoistic flagwaving.
In fact this is a well designed and thought provoking memorial to those from around the world who fought, and in some cases died for freedom. The memorial includes a number of well designed memorials statues, and artworks along with some impressively informative history panels, a particularly moving feature being the memorial to all those air crew who served in the battle. Another feature of note are the remains of the massive artillery fortifications desined to interdict the channel approaches.
Along with the external elements there is the Wings visitor centre containing an excellemt cafe and viewing area, a well stocked shop and an exhibition gallery containing a number of interesting and in many cases interactive displays, maps and simulators. This gallery also runs an interesting film. However the film does not entirely blend into the overall experience and it can be disconcerting to be in the middle of a flight simulation or other activity and be cut off when the film comes on. It is not clear at entry at which point in proceedings the film will run. There seems no obvious reason why this could not be addressed really . Overall though a fascinating slice of well presented history.
For those who are reasonably fit consider taking the footpath back through the warrens to Folkestone, weather permitting. There are some fine virews and photographic opportunities.

We visited late in the day in foggy weather. Family of five . We were greeted warmly and did covid signing in etc. We started upstairs in the cafe and enjoyed drinks and cakes. Obviously the fog curtailed any views but the area was very well set out with some great pictures on the walls. We didn't do the scramble experience but only because Of time constraints and as we will be returning on a sunny day we shall try it then. we thoroughly enjoyed the outside airmen memorial sculpture and could see the shapes of the propeller idea..The memorial wall was very moving . There were some RAF fighter aircraft models to have photographs taken next to and a large silver stuka nose in . To finish our superb visit we looked at the shop and central hub. Lots to see, lots to buy and we all purchased books and small gifts. The layout is excellent, the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable, and I look forward to visiting again on a summer, covid free day.

This memorial to the 'Few' is excellent with a touch of sadness at their loss. A central figure of an airman looking out over the English Channel sat on the boss of a propeller is poignent and the wall of the 'Few' moving. The new Wing building opened five years ago has excellent displays and is very informative. The grand-children were more interested in the two replica Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft stationed where the old ship was situated.

Is there somewhere you can have a picnic nearby?
Written 19 August 2016
You might be able to have a picnic actually at the site - I suggest you call them. A little way away are a pub and tea shop actually on the cliff top and the White Cliffs Nat Trust area just N of Dover would require a parking fee but the views are stunning. That's the other side of Dover. Nearby on the same Southern side as the Memorial is the Samphire Hoe nature reserve - again you'd have to pay to park but it's attractive with lots of picnic possibilities. V close to the Memorial is East Cliff & Warren Country Park but I haven't been there and don't know about the parking situation. Good luck from Janet
