Hiking Nigardsbreen Glacier was an awesome experience from start to finish, and a childhood dream come true. If you'd like to know what if feels like to scale the ice, read my blog post which you can find by googling 'Glacier Hiking in Norway Science Wanders'. (Lots of photos included too.) My main tip: Take any 'easy' hike rating with... More

During my trip in Norway, also visited Briksdal glacier and Kjnedalsbree glacier, but this is my favorite glacier. The boat trip, the walk across the rocks, each step getting closer to the blue wall of ice. This glacier is probably getting smaller, but compared to the two other glaciers, it is still impressive. Difficult to capture the atmosphere by photo,... More

If you are physically challenged, clumsy, or just really tired, Do not go. The tourist information center will give you a map that shows the hike is "easy in one hour". Bull roar! The hike is over large boulders and slick rocks. Met two older ladies at the hotel, and they both fell doing the hike. Other people turned back... More

My friend and I arrived at the glacier museum just before its opening at 10am and happened to chance upon a guided tour for kayak and glacier hike organised by the Ice Trolls so we hopped onto it (NOK980 each for full day tour ~7 hours). There were 10 people in the tour with two guides. We drove around 20... More

We visited this glacier hoping to walk there from the car park but as the weather was so bad (torrential rain) we were unable to cross the normally little streams as they were too deep to get to the glacier so we decided to catch the little boat that takes you a good part of the way. The boat runs... More

We took the family tour, as we had a nine year old child with us. Nevertheless, we enjoyed it very much, and so did our 16 and 19 year old teenagers.

Beautiful place that unfortunately may be disappearing with global warming. We went as a family with 3 children (age span 7-12). We just missed their "family" glacier walks, so just set out towards the edge of the glacier on our own, up to the roped-off section which is fairly close. From the visitor's center, drive to the parking lot closer... More

We did the Short Blue Ice Hike from Jostedal Breforarlag. The weather was amazing: bright blue sky, sunshine. Before getting onto the glacier it was quite warm, so it was odd to put on our warm clothes. Also on the glacier sometimes there were warm winds from other valleys. But we really did need our gloves. Also be sure to... More

If you're travelling to the area specifically for a glacier hike then it's recommended to book in advance, we did this on the bfl website the day before. The ice hike was interesting, crossing over small crevasses and up/down ice steps. Need to be of average fitness for the 'blue ice hike' as it's quite steep and you'll be in... More
