It was brilliant my son Jack loved it as well as myself. Lots of things too see and do. Spent most of the day here. Learning about the past from fossils to our mining history.

On the edge of the town centre, backing onto Mowbray Park, this is something for Sunderland to be truly proud of. First visited as a small child and always find something new as well as the familiar. Highlights include an Anglo-Saxon stained glass from nearby...More

From what I saw, it was a decent little museum. The only disappointment was the rather short opening hours; having popped in mid afternoon I was rather surprised to then find that it closes at 4pm, even at weekends. Surely it would make more sense...More

Hi, thanks for your review. We feel the opening hours reflect times the vast majority of people wish to visit. The ground floor of the Museum now remains open to the public until 5pm weekdays (7pm on a Wednesday) and on occasion opening times may...More

Free entry to the museum and Winter Gardens. Beautiful Koi Carp and dinosaurs in the undergrowth great for kids. Excellent displays for the mining industry in the area also for Sunderland Pottery, glass and textiles. I would go back again and spend more time there.
