We went on a Sunday morning for a change and to get an early pint, £28 for the two of us, which included entry a race card and a Sunday dinner. Its dated but in some ways that adds to its charm. Time may have moved on but this place is stoic in its stance to reamin true to what it is. The girls serving drinks and taking bets were chatty and knowledgeable and we were made to feel welcome and at ease. You can not pay for bets on your card so take some cash. The drinks were good I had a San Miguel and my husband had a guniness both served in the correct glasses. The vessel makes the drink so when places get it right it truly warrants a mention. Keep away from the spirits unless you want to remortgage your house. It was a slow day not many folk in so you could not win any real money. The venue though dated was clean but not very warm. The sunday dinner was a frozen delight with props to aunt bessie. The Yorkshire puddings were huge but as all ladies know size is not everything. You need a good filling and a bit more girth. Meat melted in your mouth and the gravy was truly ooooh bistow. Would go back on a busier time.

Today (26/09/2021), We decided to try Sunderland Greyhound Stadium for Sunday lunch for our wedding anniversary meal. We didn't have a booking but on arrival the guy on reception said they had a couple of tables free.

We were given a nice table in the trackside restaurant with a view of the track, right next to the winning post. The greyhound racing had started at 1106am, we arrived just before 12 noon but there was still 6 races left upto 2pm. The Main course was priced at £8.95, choice of Pork, Chicken or Beef. We both opted for Beef. The meals were delicious, the beef was thickly cut but fell apart when you cut it & tasted delicious, the potatoes & veg which consisted of, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, mashed swede, cabbage & roast potatoes aswell as mashed & a huge Yorkshire pudding. Absolutely worth the price.

You get full waitress service aswell as staff who come to your table to take any bets. It was a lovely afternoon, very relaxed & the staff were brilliant.

We decided to have desserts. I opted for new York cheesecake, the hubby had trio of ice cream, both priced at £2.95 each. Along with 4 cokes, the total bill was £34.40. Worth every penny, we even won £28 haha.

Definitely worth a visit if your in the area but if its more than 4 people, I would definitely book in advance. 10/10.

We had a New Year’s Day package. The food was fine for the price and we were very comfortable with a great view of the track. The dogs/races were fun and the dogs seemed well cared for
The absolute jewel in the crown was the staff. Mostly young, they were efficient, helpful and very friendly. They made a very pleasant afternoon even better.

We booked a private function room which was a good size for 20 people with 2 long tables with a huge window to view the track.
Staff where really pleasant with one person provided to service your bets.
The 3 course food was a bit hit and miss.
Starters and deserts where plentiful and nice enough for shop bought food.
The main course however was pretty terrible. The large tray of previously frozen shop bought roast potatoes where like stones. The rest of the meal pretty tasteless.
For the price you pay you would at least expect freshly prepared food by a chef.
Not a service I would pay for again.

A decent night out for minimal expense, if you have a few winners anyway! Suitable even for families with older children, look around for deals that offer entrance and free drinks/food.

Only go if you get the free tickets, pie and peas, bang on scran and a good laugh of a night out, be sure to visit trapz the nightclub upstairs on the night time too..

The dogs aren't only on the track.. HA!

But the ones upstairs are easier to catch ;)

We went in a party of 6 on Saturday 3rd January for a birthday celebration. We had a table booked in the Trackside restaurant. We arrived at 1900hrs to find they were about to start tgr 3rd race. It clearly stated on the confirmation letter that tge first race was 1925hrs. For the price, the food and service was ok. However, the waitress service for drinks was poor. We had to ask twice for her attention. The beer and wine left a lot to be desired when it arrived. Beer flat, wine tasted like vinegar.
The one bright point was the person taking our bets was quite pleasant.
The racing itself was lively and a good atmosphere.
At 1030 after the last race we decided to go into Trapz nightclub. Nice surprise here - no music playing and no one in, apart from the bar staff.
The music started playing approx 2240, but unfortunately to only our party of 6.
We bought a drink however and sat down to make the best of it.
At approx 2255hrs one of tge doorman came over to our table and asked what time we had our taxi booked for. We repiled 0015hrs, as the tickets stated the nightclub was open until approx 0030hrs. The doorman then asked us to try and get another taxi booked in order to leave early, as there was only us in there. We were not happy at this, but really had no option as the doorman and bar staff wanted an early finish - albeit they were probably paid their full shift. Totally un professional
and we won't be rushing back to this venue in a hurry.

Attend Wednesday 6th March for the half price deal with 6 people. We have been going every time we visit the north, this time however a different story. One of the meals under the pork buried in the mash was a very long dark hair of about 8-10 inches. We raised this immediately and some came and offered a replacement meal but as the person had eaten about 75% did not want anything further so it was declined. Upon going to pay I could not see any adjustment for the meal, asked and was informed by the manager as we decline that was all that had to do and that was it nothing further. I was not rude or abrupt and did not make any scene. That evening i spent £190.00 on food and drink alone. The attitude from the manager was disrespectful and had no customer service orientation. I will NOT be returning and I suggest you think twice. A little service would have meant a better review and a returning customer. That is now out of the frame.

Good luck

Went here for my son' birthday. Was really impressed. The service beforehand was very efficient with good follow up. It was great to be able to sit in the restaurant and look down on the races rather than standing out in the cold.We had a good view and really enjoyed our meal with a good vegetarian option. Great night1

We are regulars at Newcastle Greyhound Stadium but decided to make use of the excellent 50% off in the Restaurant. The food was superb. We had starters of pate and soup, both were delicious. The mains of steak and ale pie, chicken in a mushroom sauce and I opted for the steak. The vegetables were served separately so you could help yourself. We couldn’t finish it. The staff are lovely, atmosphere great and the drinks very reasonable. We will be back.
