just as friendly as it ever was, though it has changed over the years I think it has lost some of the character of the mining town it once was

Good meeting point in the centre of Alfreton with often attractions taking place around the area. Also a well maintained memorial

This fountain, which I have not seen working for years, has had several 'homes' in various locations around Alfreton. It would be a good feature if only it worked. Vandals are probably the main reason it seems that the Council do not make it operational.

Highlight of the town and a helpful reminder if its past. No chance of missing it either if you go down the relatively short high street. Never seen it with water in it, however

Interesting. I know that this is not the original site for this fountain and it has been moved at least once before. I wonder how many who walk past it everyday know the history behind it. I don't but I would like to.

It is a shame that the fountain is not working due to being turned off to save water, what is a fountain without water?

I would imagine that with the water turned on this would be quite a different impression but as it is , its not terribly inspiring to be honest, (fish need water)

The Bingham Memorial Fountain is located on the High Street, Alfreton. and was erected by public subscription to commemorate the highly regarded Dr Joseph Bingham. It wasn't working on the day we visited but is worth stopping to take at look at as it is...More
