Impressive
Dec 2020 • Family
Visiting with covid restrictions so the cone building and victorian tunnels were closed.Admission was free leading up to Christmas. The airport chandelier is very impressive when you read about the work involved to get it installed. The children's maze and interactive installment had been removed and replaced with an art exhibition. The glass blowing demonstration was great however the historical information show seems outdated. The gift shop is good as you can buy hand blown pieces made on site and there are little toys and souvenirs for kids. We didn't visit the cafe. We were disappointed that parts were closed and removed however considering the situation we just enjoyed being able to visit somewhere!

The world of glass was closed when we arrived, and was not due to open again until the 7th October, there was no information on the website. So ring before you travel.

I visited the museum which was actually closed at time of visit but a lovely chap opened it up for me to explore.

The pieces in the glass part are fascinating with a lot of historical content.

The museum of St. Helens part was small but equally as interesting. Learnt a lot about this small northern town.

After the walk around I was shown a lot of brochures for other places to visit while I was up north.

Although it's small it has a charm about it. We'll worth a visit

It’s well worth a visit for the Pilkington Glass History museum.

The cafe serves basic food and snacks but has a nice sunny ambience and is a great place to meet up and have a snack/coffee with friends overlooking a sunny outside area.

What a wonderful surprise.
Nov 2019
We did not have high expectations of this visit but, wow, what a surprise. The welcome started at reception and we were shown how to get round the museum to all the exhibits and special exhibitions. The local history section was so well presented and a total surprise. Very interesting industrial archaeology The cafe was so refreshing with 'home-made' food quality. A great day out for all ages.
There are a couple of things the management need to consider - the web site does not do the experience justice and there is no mention of accessibility for wheelchairs etc - it is fully accessible but they don't say so! The entrances into the kiln lack signage.
