This pub deserves your support...

Great to be back. Always a warm welcome and well kept beer. They try their best to ensure there is always a stout available.

First visit since lockdown
Jul 2020 • Solo
Great to see The Crispin back. The welcome is as warm as ever. The pub has been rearranged and organised to be safe and I felt safe and comfortable.

The beer range was obviously more limited than pre lockdown but I am sure The Crispin will soon be stocking a great range and supporting local breweries.

The pub is currently closed on Mondays to allow deep cleaning.

Can’t wait until it returns ..

At this difficult time I thought I would support some of my favourite businesses by posting updated reviews.

The Crispin, a proper local pub. Cosy and unpretentious. Well kept beers and the ever changing range always includes a dark one. Beers served in over sized glasses. The gin range also appears to be expanding.

A sun trap garden for the summer ..

The staff are always cheerful and they know their customers. I wish them luck and hope to see them soon. Take care .,

Small pub with good range of beers
Dec 2019 • Friends
A load of us went here on a pub crawl and it was a very welcoming pub, nice people with a good range of beers, good atmosphere and good prices.

Our secret
Dec 2019
A crisp, sunny winter day--the perfect opportunity to get out of London and visit a special pub. As the train sped along (I got on at Richmond and alighted at Wokingham) the sky was deep blue and the trunks of the birch trees in the woods shone in the sunlight.
At Wokingham I had to ask for directions. The centre of the town is a bit of a work in progress at the moment. The first person I asked looked like the star of a certain insurance commercial on TV. He hadn't heard of The Crispin. The second person was a mother with a child in a pram, and she gave me directions. From the green, look for the green illuminated sign for the Nuffield Gym, and take the narrow road past it, bear right and through the archway and then right a few feet along the road, and you're there.
The pub is as unspoilt and as characterful as I had hoped. At the moment it is gussied up in Christmas finery, with coloured lights winking, a Christmas tree and masses of tinsel everywhere. The Crispin is delightful because it is not too regular and smart. The black-painted beams are splitting with age. The fireback has a splash of what may well be bird guano on it. The seat of the settle where I sat when I arrived turned out to be supremely knobbly despite the thoughtful provision of a cushion.
In one corner of the pub there are bookshelves laden with paperbacks. At the other end of the pub is the jukebox. These are always welcome, but the range of songs available was more limited than some. Who wants to hear the syncopated version of Eric Clapton's "Layla" rather than the classic heartfelt version with the long instrumental at the end? And why isn't there The Police's "Bring on the Night"?
The pub has two fireplaces, neither of which was in use when I visited in the early afternoon. I am sure one of them is lit in the evening.
Also on display in the pub are certificates recording the various awards it has won. I felt a bit like Captain Scott arriving at the pole only to find that Amundsen had got there first. In this case it was CAMRA--and the blackboard outside proudly proclaims that The Crispin has been named its pub of the year 2019!

A lovely traditional pub
Oct 2019
I attended a reunion at the Crispin with a friend. This pub is situated in the middle of the town, within walking distance of the station. It is a lovely traditional pub-no annoying music, friendly staff, and several real ales are available, the best one being Hogsback T.E.A.,always a perfect pint served in tip top condition. There is a pretty little beer garden at the rear, and a selection of newspapers available.I didn't see a menu, but I believe its OK to bring in a sandwich/snack from a shop nearby, but its probably best to check this with the landlord. The Crispin is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.Historical note-St.Crispin is the patron saint of shoemakers, cobblers and leather workers, and his feast day is the 25th of October!

Relaxed and cheap
Sep 2019 • Friends
At the end of wokingham town towards the carnival pool this little pub I have always walked past but everywhere was busy and loud and wanted somewhere chilled and able to talk with friends.
The barman was friendly and chatty and recommended wines which were reasonable and with a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of seats and no music was a lovely change from a lot of the outlets in Wokingham.

A rare jewel
Sep 2019
Thank heavens, a genuine pub serving great beer in an ambiance of comfortable acceptance of what it does well. Cozy corners, comfortable seats, no bright lights etc. Called in for a pint, was directed up the road to Aroma for a sandwich which I was allowed to bring in, to enjoy with my pint(s). Nothing was too much hassle. This pub is a real throwback to a pub that serves beers and allows their customers to be comfortable, no hassle or hard sell.

Not for Folk looking for a "Harvester"
Feb 2019
Yes it is tatty and snug but it has atmosphere and the beer was well kept and intresting. Friendly locals. How pubs used to be.
PS Nothing wrong with a Harvester if it is food and beer the same as any other Harvester your looking for.
