If you don't want to get a slip, you can drop a hook and relax, well protected and there's a boat that will come by with water and ice if needed. Not sure if there is a launch to get you to land.

This is one of many environmental influences on the island. As you travel up to the North lighthouse it is visible from your car. Very picturesque!

We drove to this end of the island from Block Island Ferry area. It was a great place to stop and go kayaking to break up the drive around the island. Very peaceful and picturesque.

Boast launch on Payne Rd, make sure it is high tide as there are many shallow areas. Lots of shore birds. Pretty and tranquil.

We rented paddle boards here for $30/hr each. The staff were kind, efficient and helpful in getting us on and off the boards. The salt pond was a calm place to paddle; we went to both ends and were gone around an hour. It was a nice way to observe the seabirds.

This is a quiet spot on Block Island where one can observe crabs, snails and we've even seen a huge horseshoe crab here in the process of gathering his dinner!

We love to spend time in the great salt pond. The water is so clear, and anchorage is great. The harbor is a great place for family fun, and boaters from around the world stop here.

The Great Salt Pond is really like a huge estuary with both fresh and salt water creatures and flora coexisting. Since it's got an inlet from the ocean, is serves as a harbor for some types of sight-seeing boats, too. Lots of wildlife to see, especially bigger birds like herons. On some portions of the shoreline are commercial properties--bars and... More
