The Barac Caves are located near the village of Nova Kršlja in the municipality of Rakovica. In 1892, the caves were opened to visitors, but were subsequently abandoned and forgotten following the second World War. In 2004, the upper caves were reopened to visitors. The caves are named after a certain 'Barac' who who fought against the Ottomans. We stopped... More

We decided to check this cave out after seeing signs on our way out of the Plitvice Lakes area. Easy to find. There is a parking lot up at the top of the road, but you can continue down the road where there may be a couple spaces available. Porta potties are set up just off of the lower parking... More

We were taken through the caves by Filip who was knowledgeable and passionate about caves. He made the whole visit thoroughly interesting and enjoyable.

We decided to visit here at the last minute and definitely weren't disappointed. In early October it is quiet; we joined another family who had already started. The guide was super friendly - informative and witty. His description of how his colleague got stuck in a narrow part of the cave structure further in (after the public part) was seriously... More

I was a little worried because of the other reviews that said their tours were short, or lacked depth. Luckily our tour was the full hour long. The cave is beautiful and the staff is very kind and accommodating. Our guide, Filip, is passionate about the cave and its history. We were able to appreciate the cave even more with his... More

Really enjoyed visiting the caves! The tour is short but educational and our guide was very well spoken and had great English. The caves are definitely worth a visit if your staying over at the lakes for more than 1 day.

We arrived at the entrance and waited for about 40 mins to the next guided tour. We were a group of 6 people. Very comfortable tour as the guide was also very good in explaining the caves. He almost sound like a tv presenter. A good place to stop by if you have more days around the Plitvice national park

After driving over the green hills and almost ended up in Bosnia ;) we took the time to visit one of many caves around Croatia! The place is overrated! The visit is rather short and not very well suited for large groups! However, the educational factor for the kids is important ! Personally I enjoyed the surrounding area much more... More

We visited the Barac cavea with my family. Extremely interesting and well kept. The guide Filip spoke very good English and was well prepared. A must see when in the area.
