Koldinghus was built in the middle of the 13th century, and in the centuries that followed it was one of Denmark's most important royal castles. In 1808 there was a fire that left the castle in ruins – a romantic relic. Today the castle has been restored and houses a museum which is a centre for cultural activities and special exhibitions of international standing.

If you are into the old stuff and reading a lot of history then it's nice. For us it was a bit to much. Couldn't find the right way to walk trough the building and to much reading. Would be nice to have more interactive stuff instead of only pictures and reading.

Went there for the Danish autumn vacation. Koldinghus had so many fun things to do. Really well put together. We stayed the whole day and was kicked out (in a polite and friendly way) when they closed. Difficult to leave all the fun behind. I forgot a small bag with things i had bought at the museum. Called the office... More

Old castle with it's own charm. Nice evening walk around the castle overlooking small lake. You can see most of the ppl catching pokemons :)

Visited after it was recommended to us. Different to most castles in that emphasis was more on preservation than repair and restoration. Faberge exhibition was a bonus. Remarkable the way it has been repaired rather than faithfully restored and created spacious exhibition spaces.

We started from a walk around Koldinghus which was nice as the day was sunny and we made some nice photos of it from the lake. Then we went inside and were actually surprised how well it was restored. I really liked the old walls and modern colones from wood imitating the old ones. The most memorable places were white... lovely, picturesque 'castle' that's nice enough to have a wander about. Its like a maze inside however, so many doors, alleys, passageways so make sure if you take kids they are close enough to re-locate :) Great mix of the old and new inside however.

We found out about the fortress from the kind people who build miniby (Danish for mini-town) a project of reconstructing a downscaled model of Kolding (in the Geographical gardens). We asked, what is this impressive castle? We were told that the castle was renovated and not in ruin as it was in 1870. The castle is big and interesting, with... More

The castle has a good view of the city, the fiord . It's a special place for danish history. Design rooms are interesting for young creators in general.

Koldinghus – Jutland's last royal castle – has played an important role in the history of Denmark throughout the more than 700 years of its existence. It has served as a part of the border defences, as a royal residence, and as the seat of the local representatives of the Danish central government. Following the disastrous fire of 1808, the...
