Maybe because of the number of outstanding churches in Umbria,artistically speaking,this cathedral is mostly ignored by tourists,but it deserves more attention. What immediately captures the eye is the "baldachino" over the main altar,a reprodution done in 1698,with a few variables,of the one in St.Peter's in Rome. There are also two busts attributed to Bernini in the sacristy. All in all... More

It's not one of the 'great' Italian cathedrals, but it has remarkable features. First, the huge St Peter's-style baldachin over the altar (directly under the dome), second, the pink stone on the facade (perhaps elsewhere - I didn't see), and third the pair of heraldic marble animals flanking the entrance, which are magnificent.

As I write this, I realize that while this church is not overly-special for Italy, it would be a "must see" attraction if located anywhere in the US. The lovely pink and white façade is particularly fine. The internal church museum is worth a visit.

My husband and I were using Foligno as a base from which to visit the amazing l'Infiorata celebration in nearby Spello, so had not researched Foligno. As we were walking to the train station, we stopped in Piazza Repubblica, and were amazed at what we found in the interior of the Duomo San Feliciano - a baldacchino that highly resembles... More
