    Steeped in history
My wife and I went to Caceres on holiday recently and had an amazing time. The town, the people and the food were amazing, not to mention the weather. If you like your historical architecture, or food, then Caceres is definitely worth a visit.

    Lovely town, worth a detour
This lovely town is worth a detour. Its architectural integrity remains intact and the town shows the value of government stepping in the preserve the old. We stayed about an hour but it would have been fun to stay overnight.

Highly recommend visiting Caceres. Make it a destination.
Won't post photos, there are already so many and I don't think I could do justice to Caceres. We were here for three nights and had a great time, despite the cold damp weather much of the time. A really interesting place to visit, The old town was fascinating and wonderful to walk around, the museums and churches engaging. The modern town was also very picturesque and interesting. A wonderful place to stay and a great base to explore the local area, especially Trujillo. Some wonderful restaurants, also some not so great. A really good vibe with the modern city providing as much interest as the old town, especially the area around the Gloria Fuertes park, where we walked the dog twice a day, Some really spectacular views from the walls of the old town and equally spectacular architecture within.

Everything about this old town is wonderful. It is truly a beautiful glimpse into history. It’s very quaint and very clean and well maintained. Not overly big but everything was so well run and friendly. Would totally recommend a stay here. We stayed in the actual old town and very glad we did.

Well Worth The Time and Effort
First - Don't visit on a Monday as many things closed. Thankfully we were there for two days. Take your time to wander and save some strength for climbing church towers and the towers on the wall. It is quite steep in places but well worth the effort. Great views from the church/cathedral bell towers. When finioshed or tired drop down to Plaza Major to people watch.

Well worth a visit. We took a taxi in from our hotel and it dropped us right in the old town square. We walked around the old part which is very picturesque. We then chose to sit in the square at a local bar and enjoy drinks, snacks and then coffee. A bit of people watching is very relaxing and a very pretty setting. Unbeknown to us it turned out to be a local regional holiday so there was music and dancing on a stage set up in the square later that evening. Everyone was very friendly and we loved our time here.

Cáceres is one of these little Spanish towns that do not get the attention and glamour it deserves. It has a lot of history and medieval architecture to be appreciated. Believe me, it is unique and worth spending a whole day exploring its alleys and cute museums. If you're on your way to Lisbon from Madrid, make sure you stop there to have a great afternoon 🇪🇦❤️

Do not stop at the Plaza Major. It is nice enough even with the old and new aspects. Walk up the steps and keep going. You will find amazing buildings etc. The church about 2/3 (white front)of the way to the top (1.5E) is a bit of a disappointment. Do not stop there, keep going up towards the Parador near the top of the old town then make sure you go down each street. Really amazing, not to be missed if you are into history,

Traveling in january has its benefits. There were no crowds and the sights were beautiful. I felt like we had the place to ourselves.
Great food everywhere, Cáceres takes cuisine very seriously.
We climbed the bell tower of the cathedral for the best skyline view, well worth it. The bells went off while we were there...very loud but my 4 year old daughter thought it was hilarious.

Old town of Caceres is fascinating example of Medieval architecture. It's been declared UNESCO World Heritage City in 1986. 30 old towers still stand in Caceres, There are no visible signs of modernity, so it's easy to guess that it's frequently shown on TV or in films. Just stroll along the streets and try to imagine what wa the living in the past centuries.

This is a medieval old town that has survived some of the ravages of time. The walls and entry gates are easy to understand. As inevitable in Spain there are lots of churches and monestries. The narrow cobbled streets twist and climb passing palaces and mansions funded by the gold from the New Worls.
