About
The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art Foundation, in Jerez de la Frontera, is famous all over the world for its show called "How the Andalusian Horses Dance", a unique exhibition of horsemanship which both exhibits and summarises the work which the institution has carried out since its establishment. Although the show "How the Andalusian Horses Dance" may be considered the highest attainment of the School's work, there are other aspects which are regarded as equally, or even more important, for the Institution. Among these, we would like to highlight its role as a social and cultural vehicle for our equestrian heritage, the selection and promotion of horses, the training of Haute Ecole riders, the preservation and promotion of Classical and Country Dressage (Doma Vaquera), maintaining the prestige of our horsemanship, the breed of our Spanish horses, our traditions and culture. Furthermore, the show enables the Royal School to play host for the Province of Cadiz and to act as ambassadors abroad on annual tours to various foreign countries. In addition to the show, you might enjoy a visit to our training facilities as well as the Museum of Equestrian Art and the Carriage Museum.

    Sherry & horses
We travelled by train from Cadiz, very cheap and convenient. The school is about a 15 minute walk from the station. The school has a small cafe which served sandwiches, cakes & good coffee. We sat on the first row in area 6 (midway) and had an excellent view. The show started about 10 minutes late but was worth it. The riders basically showed perfect control and timing to the second. Beautiful horses, it must take endless hours for both horse and rider to be able to execute their routines. With a short break, the performance lasts about 2 hours. Jerez old town is also very pleasant.

    Attractive, Friendly and Amazing!
What an amazing and personal experience. My 6 year old had her dreams come true, with a special tour to help put up one of the horses, pet all the others and to meet what felt like every horse there. Staff were friendly, informative and attentive. She will speak of her time there for years to come, and maybe choose to repay the friendliness when she too can attend the school! Thank you Sandra, Javi and Jose for helping make it a wonderful and memorable experience for us!

    Lovely day out for horse-lovers
Lovely staff, lovely horses, lovely performance. Also enjoyed the Equestrian Art museum which I had as an add on to my performance ticket. Very good value for a show, especially compared to the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. I had a nice day here :)

    Amazing Horsemanship
We came here to see the horse show only, although you can buy tickets that allow you to see other things here too like the museum. In January there is only one show a week on Thursday at 12pm. We bought general tickets from the box office just before the show and ended up in section 6A seats 74 and 76 which were very good seats with only 2 rows of premium seats in front of us. All rows are tiered anyway so everyone gets a good view. It was quite cold inside when we went so wrap up warm in the winter months as it is unheated. There’s a little café inside where you can warm up with a coffee in the interval. We enjoyed the show, horsemanship is such a big part of their culture here we felt it was something we should see. The musicality of the horses is amazing, they clearly know each piece inside out and where they are supposed to be at any given moment. It really showcased these beautiful Andalusian horses and what they are capable of. Definitely something worth seeing in Jerez, the grounds are beautiful too and there is also a gift shop to buy souvenirs. Our only criticism is that at regular intervals there was commentary about the show over the speakers but only in Spanish. It would be a fairly easy thing to also do this in English as a common language that a lot of tourists speak and would mean non-Spanish speakers would get more out of the show.

Excellent experience watching some beautiful horses. Shame about the late start to the show.
An impressive place. Very attractive building and grounds. You can watch the horses being trained outside in the morning. We had tickets for the show which is once a week on a Thursday at 12.00. Show is very good. It is about careful skill of the horses and riders. The only criticism I would have was the late start as it did not get going until 12.25 as they appeared to be waiting for various well dressed dignitaries to turn up who were all late. We had to miss the second half in order to catch a train. So go early and watch the horses train and don’t be in a rush to get away in case the show is delayed.

    Brilliant ‘Backstage’ tour
Having attended the show on our last visit to Jerez, this time we took the ‘backstage’ tour. If anything, I enjoyed this more! Our guide was really informative and to be able to see behind the scenes as the school goes about its everyday training and exercise was Fabulous ( I admit I’m a horse lover). Plenty of time Un guided to watch the training sessions, both in the arena and outside, as well as visit the museum etc.

Although we’re not particularly into equine activities, this tour was really enjoyable. Our excellent tour guide, Xavi, told us about the history of the place, showed us around the facility, gave us insight into training techniques and even let us pet a horse or two. He also does a very good impersonation of an Andalusian dancing horse!

Check carefully if you are travelling out of season as the shows are sometimes only once per week. I've been wanting to go for a long time and absolutely as not disappointed. The professionalism and showmanship was first class. It was great that there was a parade outside so that we could take photos, given that photography was prohibited in the arena. Loved it all!

As a horse mad person from a very young age, I really wanted to visit here. Unfortunately, due to Covid19 we couldn't get to see the show on the day we visited. But we did have a wonderful tour of all the facilities. Getting to see behind the scenes was amazing. The sights, smells and noises all took me back to my days of owning a horse. We were lucky to be able to watch the horses and riders rehearsing for an upcoming Flameco festival, which was a real treat. The setting is stunning, the buildings are beautiful, the museum is great too. The cafe was great and we sat outside watching the horses and riders in the practice arena. Well worth a visit and we will definitely be returning.

Nice museum where the history of the art of riding is explained. We are into historical riding and have Spanish horses at home.

Then we came across the outside training ground and what we saw there was just the complete opposite of what you claim. A young rider in a “training” session. Absolutely horrible riding, completely over-paced, mouth pulled to the chest, constantly drifting over the outside shoulder. This horse was not allowed to be proud anymore, it was just in fear. The rider was just brutal by pushing more and more forward, completely out of rhythm, at the same time pulling reins left and right in turn.

That had nothing to do with the traditional way of riding and it was even worse than what you see in most modern sports stables. What a shame!!

This is an amazing place to visit to see the horses training. Do arrive at a time for an English tour as it is so interesting to hear about the selection of candidates for the school and both their and the horses training. You also get to visit the horses in their stable plus see them training in both the indoor arena and outside paddocks.

It is worth paying extra to go into the museum too. Wandering around the lovely gardens and seeing the house was really lovely. It is on the outskirts of Jerez and we caught a taxi from the center as too far too walk. There is a small cafe within the venue but several restaurants and cafe on the main road nearby.

It is truly a place full of charm, worth a visit. Everything exudes passion and love for the horse and pride in the excellence of Spanish equestrian art. It is also an excellent alternative to the overly popular visits to the hundreds of sherry cellars (unless you are a fan).
The stables are beautiful. They are located inside an octagonal building with the saddlery (the Guadarnés) in the center where the harnesses, saddles and bits of the stallions that perform are kept. The boxes that house the Spanish-bred horses are arranged in five stables of 12 boxes each with a wonderful cobbled floor.
