Such a large and impressive structure and I can only imagine the many battles fought in the arena. I can't imagine what it would have been like when it was a fully functioning arena filled with battling gladiators.....scary stuff. Definitely a must see in Merida

We happened along this small city completely by accident and are so glad we went. It is a hidden jewel in this huge country. A definite must visit!

One of the major Roman sites in Spain. Well laid out with a good managed route around the site. Really worth the visit.

A very good example of a Roman Ampitheatre, in a small town at the edge of the Roman Empire. The site is well documented and well worth the visit

I found myself speechless at this amazing sight. This is a special place excavated but surrounded by houses. I loved the way we could walk round the upper walls but also go right down to the floor of the amphitheatre itself. The atmosphere here is so good you could imagine the cheers of the crowds. A place not to be... More

Merida is a great city to see Roman ruins & history. One of my favourite places in Spain. Circus Romano, Temple of Diana, Romano Theatro & much much more to see! Beautiful place.

The lower part of the Anfiteatro is well preserved and so are the gates and accessways. Lots of details were found during excavation and may be found in the Museo Nacional de Arte Romano whicj is close by

Cant miss this attraction, Not overly crowded like Rome Italy, and absolutely beautiful. Buy the ticket that includes all the historic sites in Merida.

All the Roman ruins are well worth a visit in Merida, you can buy one ticket for 15€ that covers the entrance to all the important ones and you can see the others on route. Well looked after and presented, unlike the town itself.
