Versatile elephant "Nanjan"
Sep 2020 • Friends
Kumki elephant Nanjan, awesome , brilliant elephant.
My memories still alive about this late elephant.
Now no more but it was a seasoned , obedient , aggressive kumki elephant which had worked in many kumki operations .

Kumki Nanjan memories
Jan 2020 • Family
I met the mahout of the late Nanjan elephant and when he saw me he actually forgot me, because used to spend lot of time in topslip earlier, since moved out for my job i could not go as frequently as i went earlier. This time when I met him at a camp and reintroduced me and I showed some pictures with nanjan elephant, te mahout cried and shared his memories again , really it took some time to convince him, he cried somuch even now he is so attached to his late elephant.

Fitness , the look, the behaviour , discipline was the words he told me . Real hero Nanjan still lives in his heart.

Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area located in the Anaimalai Hills of Western ghats. The sanctuary area extends in Pollachi and Valparai taluks of Coimbatore district and Udumalpet taluk of Tiruppur District in Tamil Nadu state.

Poeple want to visit this Sanctuary, mainly access it from Top Slip area at about 40 km from Pollachi. Limited bus services are available from Pollachi. The sanctuary is noted for the valuable timber trees including teak, rosewood, and other trees with lots and lots of bamboo trees. Animals such as Elephant, Tiger, Panther, Deer, Wild Dog, Nilgiri Tahr, etc found here. Lot of bird varieties can be found too. The Sanctuary includes Top slip, Aliyar, Valparai, Amaravti, Tirumoorthi hills and many other areas. Have visited this sanctuary several times. The sanctuary also has several dams and parks in near by areas.

In Remembrance of Kumki Nanjan
Nov 2018 • Family
Visited with friends and family in November 2018. Roads are pathetic. As usual the extra fare collected for safari bus. Canteen facilities still not improved. Staff are here not caring. They live a jolly life. I remrmbered a kumki elephant called Nanjan which is no more now. Lots of improvements required from forest staff.

Interesting area

We drove through here in our tour bus whilst travelling to Munnar. The drive itself is an adventure along the mountain roads.

We didn't see any tigers or elephants, I expect you have to go further into the hills for that.

Disappointing Jungle Stay
Sep 2017 • Family
Infrastructure is very poor. Avoid the tree house or the bamboo hut. They are rat infested. Service is pathetic, Food at the canteen is absolutely unacceptable to people from outside south India. Only face saver is the visit to the elephant camp where elephants of the forest department are fed in the evening. You can visit Parambikulam tiger Reserve which is next door, but chances of seeing wildlife out there is also very remote.

Good Sanctuary but limited food options for travellers
Dec 2017 • Family
You need to buy ticket which is nominal fee but they will insist of guide accompanying you and charge Rs. 100/- When we went, they charged, but guide was no where to be seen! Anyway, try to go early morning or late evening.. as otherwise, animal sighting is not good. We had our trip around 12.00 noon but still we were luck to see elephants including young ones. Couple of langurs and birds we saw.. nothing more. There is one more sanctuary further up called Parambikulam which we heard has more animals.. but we didn't go there.

Scenic Beauty
Dec 2017 • Solo
I went to Anamalai WildLife Sanctuary. There are many places of natural and scenic beauty in the Anamalai wildlife sanctuary. Some of them are Grass hills, Karianshola, Anaikunthi Shola, groves, waterfalls, teak forests, reservoirs and dams. It is great place to go.
