Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From Gmunden it's an easy 10 min ride on the recently renovated Grünberg-Seilbahn to get to Grünberg. There you have a restaurant, a summer rodelbahn, the Baumwipfelpfad and the start of multiple walks. We had a 4-year old child with us, so we were looking for something more than the 1.4 km Baumwipfelpfad walk but also not too challenging. The 4km / 1h walk to Laudachsee was perfect. This is a nice forest walk, with some spectacular views over the Traunsee. Although the walk goes up and down, it's never too challenging. As reward, you can enjoy the view over Laudachsee and the surrounding mountains, with a beer and some local food at Ramsaualm. You can also walk around the lake, but we just went down to touch the water and then went back (which is the same route).

We were just after Covid-19 lockdown, so no idea if this place is "normally" more crowded, but for us it was quiet and clean, with a nice bar/restaurant in the neighborhood.

The hiking trail to Laudachsee isn't too hard and can be done by most people. The situation with paying at the parking was a bit confusing. Most annoyingly we paid gor a ticket we probably didn't need but the ticket automat malfunctioned and didn't give us the ticket.
But the destination is worth it, it's a beautiful mountain lake and was already warm enough for swimming in May; but you should be fine with "refreshing" water temperatures.
Only minus is that usually quite a lot of people go there, it's definitely not a secret spot.

I had first hiked up to the Laudaschee back in July 2018, so when I came back to Gmunden, I knew I had to hike back up for a second time. My friend had asked me if I wanted to go for a hike in our free time, so who couldn't say no? Since coming to live in Gmunden in 2015, my favourite thing to do has become climbing/hiking up the mountains in the region. Back home in Canada, in Ontario, we don't have mountains.

There are a few ways to access the Laudaschee, but both times I've accessed it through the north side, which is about a 10 minute drive or so from the bridge crossing the river in Gmunden.

The hike up can be made by everyone and it isn't steep. I've learned to bring a sack with a big bottle of water and some energy bars. The hike up is around 45 minutes or so if you're moving quickly. Near the top before you reach the Laudaschee, there is an all natural drinking trough with water from the mountain. 100x better than any bottle of water I've had.

As you can see from the photos, it's very beautiful, open and peaceful. You can even go swimming in the lake, but it's quite rocky on the bottom, so make sure you're wearing some waterproof footwear. There is also a beautiful little restaurant located up at the Laudaschee. The food is excellent for a great price and a great portion with refreshing beverages. I would attempt to spell what I ate, but it's much easier just to say it.

Overall, I love coming back to this beautiful and peaceful spot. Only thing I'd recommend is, if you're coming on a hot day, you may want to hike up in the morning, especially if you have a dog coming. Check this place out!

Beautiful mountain lake with several mountains surrounding you. Plenty of reflections on the surface of the lake on a clear sunny day. Its a steady climbing walk either direct from Gmunden (1 hour 10 mins to 2 hours depending on fitness) or you can take the cable car from Gmunden up to Grunberg and then a shorter walk to the lake (25mins to 50 mins).
At the lake there is a cafe where you can order hot and cold foods and drinks.
The footpaths are well looked after and very well marked.
Well worth a visit to either stop there to chill out, relax and admire the views or to continue on to do longer walks / mountain climbing.

This lake is very nice and can be reached quite easily with a short walk (or hike). The lake is nicely nestled into the mountains surrounding it. Can get quite busy.

Very idyllic and scenic lake, embedded into sorrounding mountains, especially during summertime, with a nice nearby restaurant. Possibility to swim as well but a bit chilly water. Approximately 45 - 60 minute hike from the nearby cable car station.
