The cable cars are not maintained very well and many areas are unclean. On reaching the mandir, one has to stand in a long queue and the darshan is perfunctory and extremely short. The priests are not cooperative and there is no system of individual puja

this place is good to visit only in monsoons. the mountain top is covered in clouds...the problem at religious places in india that they are full of filth. But ignoring that, u can have short picnic at pavagadh and around. You can have tea amid clouds, can visit a heritage mosque, downhill and visit waterfalls that get active after good amount of monsoon....other than monsoon time...not recommended.....good fpr barodians as they don't have much options of natural places !!

Pavagadh (means "one fourth hill" or "fire-hill") is in Panchmahal district.I t is about 46 kilometres from Vadodara in Gujarat. Famous Mahakali temple is situated here. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths. Pavagadh is also known as "Tapobhumi" of Maharshi Vishwamitra.

The bus service has been extended up to Machi. Vehicle parking, Restaurants and facilities are available hare. I found that there is a need to improve the level of facilities here.

Maa Mahakalika Udan Khotala (A Passenger Ropeway) is operating here from Manchi to the hill top near the Maha Kalika Temple. Timing 6am to 6pm or so to come back by 7.30(last cable cartrip). It’s taking about 6 minutes, whereas, the steep climb on foot takes over one hour. The temple of Kali is at the height of 550 metres (1,523 feet).

After getting down from Ropeway there is a market for prashad and pooja samagri. Teliya Talav and Dudhia Talav are on the way. Some Jain temples are also seen hare. From here after climbing 250 steep we reach to the Mahakali temple.

If you are a Devotee of Godess Ma Kali, then you can visit the temple at the top. If then its nothing spetacular. On the weekends the ropeway line is extremely long and its quicker to climb on the top than to wait in queue. It takes 30-40 min to come down and 1 hr to got to the top of the ropeway.

Just a 45 minute drive from Baroda, near the industrial town of Halol, you may chance to see a hill yonder.

Not many know the wonders it has to offer. Hundreds of kms of Jungle infested with Sloth Bears, Leopards etc Jambughoda forest is only 35 kms from here. The Unesco heritage site of Champaner fort, the looming Pavagadh hill is a fantastic activity place in Gujarat. It is also a wildlife and bird watchers paradise.

We did a 4.1/2 hr trek with children and families starting from Pavagadh base to Machi which is also the base from where the Udan Khatola or the ropeway starts.

Fantastic lush green forest, amidst mist, light rain..its a paradise for day treks and camping. Once we are on the top of the hill you can only see forest cover till the eye meets the horizon.

No more industrial development please. It has been like this for millions of years.

the place has a ropeway so dont worry you will not have to climb up or down. the climb up can be taxing and could take you 2/3 hours depending on your fitnesss, however the climb down would take you an hour or so. lots of places to eat and plent yof accommodation available. cleanliness is a major issue here. its about 60 kms from city of vadodra. a jain pilgrimage site!

43 deg C, 44 deg C... scorching heat. One can't imagine switching of AC and fan let alone roam around outside. Roam around outside home? Impossible. "You're crazy" told my bro when I announced plans of going to this place at 11 in morning, usually people go atop early in the morning and see the sun rise but that day it was already 37 deg C outside when I started my car.

It took about 5 full min to cool the car cabin. I took enough water with me to fight the heat and ate very less so my body won't need much water. About 1 hour 10 min drive and I was already able to see the Hill lurking at the horizon. I parked my car near a hotel and purchased some more water. I already drank 1lit water till now. The best way to stay hydrated is to keep sipping some water whether or not you feel thirsty. I kept driving and soon I was climbing the Hill.

There is a destination on way to the top called "machi village" I drove a little father than that and then parked my car at a safer place, albeit on slope, and slept on the inside wall. Inside wall means the wall toward the Hill and not outer side. Wall as in the wall making boundary of the spiral road. It was the amazing moment and worth all the driving on dangerous slope.

Though I slept in the shade, I could see that if you can manage to stop sun rays getting in to your eyes you could easily sleep without shade as well, it was that cooler near the hilltop.

Next I sat on the fort wall for about an hour with the Vally just about a foot away from my feet - under the sky- and let me tell you not even once it burned my skin. Cool breeze made me forget everything for the time I was there. Though I took some pictures knowing I will send it to my friends n wife after I get down.

Next, I went to see some places around but that I shall cover in separate post. For now I would summarize by saying that let not the time of day or month of year make you delay the visit to this amazing place. The fact that it's much less commercialized, partly may be due to the fact that it's declared world Heritage site, you can enjoy untouched wilderness and hillside beauty here so easily.
