About
The valley from Kinsarvik to Hardangervidda is one of the natural wonders in Ullensvang, including 4 impressive waterfalls, lying close at each other within a distance of 3 hours on foot. Tveitafossen, abt 4 kms from Kinsarvik centre, thereafter 3 bigger waterfalls within walking distance Nyastolsfossen, Nykkjesoyfossen and Sotefossen. Excellent terrain for hikes.

A great walk, uphill. Beautiful scenery, and very nice waterfalls. We did only the first 2 as we were 2 families with total of 7 kids, so they didn't want to see all 4. But even that was sufficient and a very successful day. Keep in mind doing all the waterfalls can take 4-5 hrs at least (depending on your pace). Parking is problematic, as you need to park at least 1KM from the starting point of the trail.

It's easy to find the start of this hike as the car park by the bridge is signposted from Kinsarvik. Although other reviews have said you can drive up and park by the power station right by the 1st waterfall, when we went there was a sign saying no cars to drive up there so we didn't risk it. We did this hike with our children (ages 6 and 8) so didn't intend to get to all 4, but we were able to get to the 2nd. The first part is a gravel road by the river which varies from amazing rapids to a wide, clear flow (this was in May so lots of snow melt water). You quite quickly reach the first waterfall and hydroelectric power station. This was impressive enough, but the kids favourite thing was the scramble up the rocks next to the pipe to get to the top of the falls. It was warm and sunny when we did this hike with dry ground, but I can imagine this steep section would be slippery if wet. At the top of the first falls there is a nice area right by the river to stop and rest. You can see the 2nd falls further up, and the rocky trail climbs up through the forest. Note that you go straight from the top of the 1st falls to the top of the 2nd falls, so it's a long steep section. The kids were tired by this point, so we descended the trail to the top of the 1st falls, then took the gravel access round down the rest of the way.

I suggest if considering this walk, first drop by the tourist office in downtown Kinsarvik to get both directions and a map. For a non Norwegian, tourist signs to direct you are non existent. Best I can describe is take the side road to the family fun park (Mikkelparken) and proceed along it to the carpark at bridge crossing a small river (the Vivippo). From there you can choose to start your walk or tempt fate and drive the dirt road to the power station where there is also limited parking (you'll save about 20 mins walking but the walk up is pleasant and allows you take in views beside the river). From the power station I highly recommend the walk up the pipeline, a moderate challenge but nice views and satisfying when completed. When coming back take the dirt road down as easier on your legs and probably quicker. The trail to the various waterfalls - Tveitafossen (at the power station), Nyastolsfossen (the next one), Nykkjesoyfossen and Sotefossen - from the top of the pipeline is obvious but not well marked. Also which waterfall you are at is unclear, how far you have gone or how long to next viewpoint or waterfall is not provided anywhere. In a 3 hour round trip, a little under 2 hours up with various stops for breaks and food, and 1.25 hours back, we took in 3 magnificent waterfalls. The views to the waterfalls and up and down the valley are wonderful and in early June with much snow still melting, the water flow was extremely powerful. Was a truly enjoyable, memorable and scenic half day hike. To get to the top of the 4th waterfall and return we were advised needed 5 hours for roundtrip. Not recommended for young uncontrollable children due to unfenced cliff drop offs once past the top of pipeline.

This was our favourite walk in the Hardangerfjord region. A challenging enough hike without being too difficult though it is steep in places between the first and second waterfall. Each ascent was rewarded with a stunning waterfall we took 8 hours to complete but that included alot of stopping and enjoying the views. Near the bottom of the forth waterfall we went over to the right and crossed a bridge which allowed us to get very close to the bottom of the waterfall. The last part included a rock scramble. We found the gravel road after descending from the forth waterfall and took this back down which gave us some new views to see.

Great trail along 4 waterfalls. From Kinsarvik we rode to the car park at the start of the trail. It was quite full there as the weather was pretty good.
The path starts as a wide gravel trail with some elevation towards the first waterfall. The other waterfalls are a lot harder to reach if you take the trail through the woods (you can also follow a winding gravel path halfway up to the third waterfall which is easier but not as nice). A lot of climbing up rocks through the forest takes you from fall to fall with some impressive views along the way. As I am not in a great shape this was challenging but therefore even more rewarding to reach each waterfall and stop to enjoy the view. Some rain made the path slippery so it is advisable to have good shoes and a raincoat. Also bring some food and water as you'll be walking for a couple of hours and having a picknick at one of the waterfalls is just a nice thing to do.
We made it to the top of the 3rd fall because of the rain and because we started a bit late. The 4th can be seen from up there though. Because of the slippery path we took the gravel path back down to the parking lot which was a lot quicker. In total the hike took us 4,5 hours. We made some short stops along the way up to take pictures and catch our breath. Totally worth it and very impressive nature.

Went for a evening trip without really knowing what to expect with my son on 15 years. As we arrived at quarter to eight in the evening we could drive up the power station and save half an hour walk each way on a somewhat boring road. Husedalen valley is also known as the four waterfalls and we decided to hike an hour each way and see how many we would make. The first was right at the powerstation and big and powerful, then a followed a tough climb and little by little we could hear what Nyastølfossen and aften some more climbing we had an unspoiled view to the extremely powerful and beautiful Waterfall. We hurried up to the third which were more calm and peacefull. Time was up but it was summer and it would never be dark so we continued to a plateau so beautiful it is hard to describe. A small climb and finally we stood below the fourth and biggest waterfall. Wow. We headed back and where at the car at 23.00. We walked a quite high pace. Ideally you could have used much longer time. Definitely our best hike in Norway. Well marked, no people, a little slippery when wet.

To do the '4 waterfall hike' - Drive to Kinsarvik, Ullensvang and then a right on the Fv108. Follow this road up the hills keeping the river valley on your right. You will come to a parking lot just before a bridge. Park your car and then walk across the bridge past the helicopter landing place on the right. It is a gravel track. You will then come to the first of the four waterfalls. There is a building there with a pipe line leading up the side of the waterfall behind a track is marked with a red post to the left of the car park, take this path and continue on up.
We did this on a very wet day and its not ideal as the track becomes somewhat of a water way in a heavy deluge. GREAT GREAT view none the less. Take appropriate clothing and dont be scared to get muddy if its wet.

Though on our way back from our hike we discovered that a huge number of raindeers was killed there the night before by lightning we did enjoy the hike. Beautiful waterfalls and medium level hike( 4 waterfalls of Husedalen valley). To see all waterfalls takes around 5/6 hours depending on your pace. Parking is available at Kinso power house next to the first waterfall. However, we parked near the kart track which is about 2,5km extra walk as we were afraid of driving on a narrow road, which was unnecessary. You can definitely park near the power station if you come early enough to get the spot.

We hiked to Husedalen falls on August 11th. Turned out to be the most enjoyable (not grueling) hike of many we did in Norway. Moderately challenging. Beautiful forest surrounding the river and the falls. Steep and slippery in some parts but plenty of flat sections to recover. The falls are amazing. One gets such a charge of positive energy. We started late and only made it to the 3rd where one also gets the glimpse of the 4th fall.
The nice bonus - availability of an easy, road return on the way down. The trails for the road return is not marked and is easily missed. Look for a fork in the trail just as you start descending from the relatively flat rock at the bottom of the 3rd. The right path leads in less than 50 m. to a gravel, well-maintained road down. The road is not visible from the T-marked forest trail.
Beautiful hike. Highly recommend.

I have hiked the valley many times but everytime I see something new. The waterfalls change as the amount of water changes during the year.
In the start of the summer you can walk from winter high up to spring and summer as you descend from 1100 meters down to the fjord. 3 of the 4 waterfalls are inside the Hardangervidda national Park.
The waterfalls are named (from bottom)Tveitafossen, Nyastølsfossen, Nykjesøyfossen, Søtefossen.
You can hike the old path up and down, or take a "hidden" new-closed off- gravel road back down.
Drink water from the streams, listen to the sounds of nature and enjoy nature!!
(I use to live in Kinsarvik so I guess this review is is a biased.

Hello,
A friend and I will have two and a half days to rent a car in Bergen to travel roundtrip to Hardangervidda National Park. I'm looking at accommodations in Eidfjord, Kinsarik/Utne, or Odda/Roldal and hiking the 4 waterfalls hike or the Buerbreen Glacier hike near Odda. Could you give me advice on the best route to take from Bergen (all road or road plus ferry) to make the most of our short time here? Are the roads very winding and steep? Advice on accommodations would be helpful too.
Thanks for your time and suggestions.

sorry if this reaches you too late. We stopped over for 2 nights in Ulvik in the Gjesthues there - basic rooms but clean and we went to the 4* hotel for buffett dinner.
From bergen this is nice scenic drive, good roads, no ferry required. To drive to the walk took roughly an hour but its worth it and you can really appreciate the tunnels and bridges carved into the rock.
