The Flam Railway is a beautiful way to see the scenery in the fjords. We went as part of a cruise, and booked the tickets via the company to ensure we got a seat. I'm not sure how much tickets cost normally; we didn't want...More

Nearly all of the views are on the left side, so sit there if possible. It won't be possible if you have a short connection from the train from Bergen - all those seats will be taken. If you want pictures, go on a clear...More

Booked the return trip to Myrdal online 6 months before we arrived on a cruise ship in Flåm. Managed to get the right hand side of the train on the way up and enjoyed lovely views. The waterfalls were in full flow and very spectacular....More

My husband & I recently went on this train whilst in port for the day on a Norwegian fiords cruise. The ticket office is only a short walking distance from the ferry terminal. I didn't pre-book the tickets & as they were sold out on...More

After reading all about the Flåmsbana railway, I went with great expectations. I was a bot disappointed as the views was not as spectacular as expected. Well the engineering part was indeed outstanding and the way it was built was worth mentioning but riding in...More

Must book in advance. There is no seat assigned, just sit where ever. Trip takes about an hour from Myrdal to Flam. Train stops once at a huge waterfall. Can alight to take photos. See some nice scenery along the way, including valleys, waterfalls and...More

My wife and I found the one hour trip full of wonderful sights and vistas. Mountains, waterfalls, rivers, hamlets, and more. If you are planning a trip to the Bergen region, try to build the Flam Railway into your itinerary.

Flam has little else but the railway to Myrdal and its associated museum. The return journey to Myrdal is often spectacular particularly on a sunny day but tickets will set you back 480 Norwegian Kroner (and still more if you buy them through your cruise...More

We rode the Flam railroad from Flam to Myrdal with a tour. The tour guides from the cruise ship and other tours did a good job packing the railroad cars with their tourists in an orderly fashion. The views reminded us somewhat of the Bernina...More

To be honest there is not an enormous amount to do in Flam apart from the railway. If you have never been on a mountain train trip then do it, wonderful views of valleys, waterfalls, and if you do the return trip it will be...More

We are staying in Flam and would like to take the Flam railroad to Myrdal and then continue on to Oslo. My questions are 1) can we still get the fun waterfall stop that I've read others enjoy or am I going in the 'wrong direction' 2) can we catch a train to Oslo? 3) Can I purchase all of this beforehand ASAP?

yes to all 3, norwegian rail website, for both tickets, look at visitflam site for cost and timetable, and coordinate the myrdal to oslo train time, the first half hour or so from myrdal will delight you. have fun. easy.

I'd like to do the train journey and will be there in July on a Cunard cruise with the QM2. What l don't understand is why Cunard are charging twice the amount charged by the local railway company. Is that Cunard just being greedy and making a lot of money or is there something extra they offer?

We arrived I Flam around 7am, but the ship wasn't cleared for an hour, you can do it yourself, but you need to give the ship time to clear. All cruise line charge a lot , the only extra we had on our firm trip was a stop at... More
